SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 735,959, dated August 11, 1903.

To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EUGEN FOLKMAR, engineer, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at 4. l/Vielandstrasse, in the city of Oharlottenburg, near Berlin, in the Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Respirators, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to respirators in the shape of helmets of the kind where a current of fresh air is made to flow all along the face of the wearer. In my present improvement the helmet itself is not constructed in form of a hollow body serving to guide the fresh outside air; but in my present invention the conduit for the fresh air introduced from the outside consists of a separate hollow body which is not made in one piece with the helmet, the helmet or similar headgear only serving as a means to support the said hollow body. I prefer to use detachable connections between the head-gear and the fresh-outside-air conduit, so as to be able to detach the latter conduit from the head-gear, if required, and to use the said head-gear by itself.
My present invention embraces the further improvement that the nozzle of the fresh-outside-air conduit terminates in a kind of sprinkler, the opening of the nozzle being, preferably, not in a straight plane, but being slightly curved. The nozzle-shaped narrowing down of the mouthpiece makes it possible and is intended to guide the current of fresh outside air more securely, which after it has left the nozzle assumes the form of a broad band of air, which covers the faceof the wearer completely.

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
1. In a respirator the combination with a head-cover for the upper part of the head of a separate fresh-air conduit supported by said head-cover, means at the lower edge of said head-cover in connection with said airconduit to break and distribute the current of air, substantially as described.
