Description
UNTT D STATES Patented August 11, 190 3.
ROBERT D. WESTOOTE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
T-ICKERR ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 735,922, dated August 11, 1903. Application filed August 18 1902. Serial No. 119,999. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT D. WESTOOTE, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ticker Attachments, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is to provide a stock-ticker, news-ticker, or other machine of this class with a guide and support for the tape which will hold the tape in a horizontal or substantially horizontal position after it leaves the machine, so that the characters or printed matter thereon may be conveniently seen before the tape falls into the basket or other receptacle prepared therefor.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in Which- Figure 1 is a side view of an ordinary stockticker machine provided withrmy improvement; Fig. 2, a plan view of the guide and support for the tape, and Fig. 3 a front view thereof.
In the drawings forming part of this specification I have shown at a an ordinary stockticker machine, which is placed on a suitable base or support I) and which is provided with the usual arm or bracket 0, in which is mounted a tape-roller d. The machine proper consists of a base a having the usual glass globe e, and within the globe e, as indicated at f, is an ordinary stock or other ticker. top of the base portion a? of the ticker is provided with an annular flange or rim a having at the backa notch or recess a through which the tape 01 passes as it enters the machine, and at the front, as shown at 0. a small notch or recess through which the tape 01 passes as it leaves the machine.
In the practice of my invention I provide a guide and support 9 for the tape and over which the tape passes as it leaves the machine, and this guide and support g, as shown in the The drawings, consists of atop plate or member 9 and a brace g ,which is secured to the base or .support I) at g ,and a triangular inner member g, secured to the'member g at 9 to the base I) at g and to the top member or plate g at 9 The top member or plate g of the tape guide and support is provided with vertically-arranged side flanges g", between which the tape passes, and in the outer end thereof with a transverse slot or opening h, through which the tape passes and from which it falls into a basket or other'receptacle z'. The inner end of the top member or plate 9 of the tape guide and support is segmental in form, as shown at h in Fig. 2, so thatit willfit closely adjacent to the base a of the machine and under the flange or rim or, and as the tape leaves the machine it passes out onto the guide and support and passes longitudinally thereover, and the end thereof is turned down through the transverse slot or opening it. By means of the flanges g and the slot or opening it the tape is always held in proper position on the guide and support, and this guide and support, or the top member or plate thereof, may be of any desired length, and by means thereof the tape as it leaves the machine is held in such a position that the charactersthereon or the printed matter thereon may be conveniently and easily read by a number of people.
My invention is not limited to the form or construction of the guide and support nor to the method of connecting the same with the machine, the only object in this connection being to provide a guide and support for the tape which will hold the tape in a horizontal or substantially horizontal position after it leaves the machine and before it drops into the basket or other receptacle.
- Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
An attachment for stock-ticker machines of the usual construction comprising a bracket adapted to be secured to the support of the I machine below the slot through which the I ence of the subscribing witnesses, this 16th tape issues, and said support being also proday of August, 1902.
vided with side flan 'es, and at the end thereof with a transverse slot or opening, substan- ROBERT WESTOOTE' 5 tially as shown and described. Witnesses:
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as F. A. STEWART,
my invention I have signed my name, in pres- J. O. LARSEN.
