PATENT OFFICE.
FlRE-ARRESTER FOR ELECTRIC-INCANDESCENT-LIGHT WIRES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 733,876, dated July 14, 1903.
Application tiled March 8, 1902. Serial No. 97,351. .(No model.)
To a/ZZ whom t may concern,.-
Beit known that I, OSCAR H. R. SGHULZE, a citizen of the United States, residing at 210 Dearborn avenue, Chicago, Illinois, have invented a new Fire-Arrester for Electric-Incandescent-Light Wires, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to prevent fire originating at the globe or socket ot' an electric-incandescent-light wire trorn spreading by following along the cloth-covered wire.l
Figure 1 is a perspective View of my invention complete. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view.
Fig. l shows the invention complete and ready for use.
Fig. 2 shows two blocks of asbestos, each about two inches long by about one inch Wide and about one-half inch thick, and each block having two grooves on one side about one inch apart and about one-sixteenth of an inch in depth extending the Whole width of the blocks of asbestos,so that when the blocks are placed with their grooved sides together they form a clamp closely itting to and inclosing the two strings of an electric-incantiescent-light Wire, which strings have been separated or spread apart sufficiently to fit in the grooves in the blocks of asbestos. The two blocks of asbestos when so itted around the two strings or wires are held together by a band of tin or other metal'(marked c, Fig. l) which surrounds the blocks and is placed at about the middle of the tlat sidesthereof. The letters a and ZJ show ends of blocks of asbestos.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
The two blocks of asbestos, each having two grooves extending across one side, into which the two strings of an electric-incandescent-light wire which have been spread apart sufficiently to iit in the grooves, have been placed, and the two blocks of asbestos with their grooved sides together, then tightly clamped to the wires by a metallic band, to forni a complete barrier to ame or tire, and to prevent it from following the Wire and burning beyond the point where the asbestos Witnesses:
