PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM E. SULLIVAN, OF FITCHBURG, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR, BY
MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, OF ONE-HALF TO THE PARKHILL MANUFAC- TUBING COMPANY, OF FITCHBURG, MASSACHUSETTS.
THREAD-GUIDE COLLAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 733,345, dated July 7, 1903.
Application filed December 4, 1902. Serial No. l33l9l (N m d l To (tZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM E. SULLIVAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fitchburg, in the county otWorcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Thread- Guide Collars; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention is an improved thread-guide collar for threading machines, especially adapted for use in connection with threading-machines known as long chain-quilling machines; and it consists in the peculiar construction and combination of devices hereinafter fully described and claimed.
The object of my invention is to combine with a thread-guide collar an arm or plurality of arms having guide-eyes for the threads, which arms are adapted to be adjusted both vertically and horizontally to take up the slack of the thread and give the same the required tension to prevent doubling, thus obviating the loss and inconvenience sometimes resulting from doubling and avoiding the necessity of unwinding and rewinding when the same occurs. Y
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved threadguide collar, showing the same on the rod of a threading-machine. Fig. 2 is a top plan View of the same. Fig. 3 is an elevation of the same. Fig. ais an elevation showing the relative arrangement of my thread-guide de vice and the bobbins on a threading-machine.
In the embodiment of my invention I provide a guide-collar 1, which is cylindrical in form and which is here shown as adapted to be secured and adjusted on the rod A of a threading-machine with a longitudinally-disposed flange or rib 2 on its outer side, which flange orrib is provided with a pair of vertical 0penings 3, in which are disposed the vertical portions 1 of the thread-guide arms 5, the latter having horizontal arms 6 at their lower ends provided at their outer ends with the eyes '7, adapt-ed to be engaged by the threads or yarns. The vertical portions of the thread-guide arms are vertically adjustable in the said openings and are also adapted to. be turned therein, so that the said thread-guide arms may be adjustable both vertically and horizontally, as may be required. The guide-eyes keep the yarns or threads apart, and as they are drawn and kept at all times under tension by the revolution of the bobbins doubling of the yarn or thread is effectually prevented. The vertical portions of the threadguide arms are engaged and secured at any desired adjustment by set-screws 9, which operate in threaded openings with which the rib or flange 2 of the collar is provided. The collar is secured on the rod A by a set-screw 12.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A thread-guide collar having a lateral rib or flange provided with a vertical opening, in combination with athread-guide arm having a vertical portion engaging and vertically adjustable in and also adapted to be turned in said opening, and means to engage said vertical portion of the thread-guide arm to secure the same at any desired adjustment, substantially as described.
2. A thread-guide collar having a lateral rib or flange provided with vertical openings in combination with a pair of thread-guide arms, each having a vertical portion, a horizontal portion, and a thread-guide eye at the outer end of the latter, said vertical portions of said guide-arms being Vertically adjustkil able in the openings in the rib or flange of l my hand in presence of two subscribing Witsaid collar and also adapted to be turned therein to adjust the thread-guide eyes of said arms from or toward each other, and means to secure said thread-guide arms when adjusted, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set DQSSBS.
WILLIAM E. SULLIVAN.
Witnesses: I FREDERICK A. CURRIER,
EDWARD W. WATSON.
