PATENT FFICE,
APPLIANCE FOR MOLDING APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Iatent N 0. 732,918, dated July 7, 1903.
Application filed March 19, 1903. Serial No. 148,636. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LOUIS BERG, a citizen of the United States of America, residing in the borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, State of New York, have invented an Improved Appliance for Molding Apparatus,
of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a molding apparatus, such as a molders bench or table, a molding machine or flask or brass molders tub with a simple and economical device whereby the bench or table or other moldin g apparatus may be shaken or rappec as it is commonly termed, while the molder is withdrawing the pattern from the sand. In most foundries it is the common practice for a molder to call an assistant or another molder from an adjacent-bench to come and rap 1 the bench or table for him as lie-withdraws the pattern from his mold. This is expensive of labor. To avoid thisexpcnse, I provide a simple and economically-actuated device and means for operating it under the control of the molder himself to shake or rap the table or bench or other molding apparatus when ever he desires.
i In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front View of sufficient of a molders bench to illustrate my invention. Fig. 2 is an end view. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of my turbine shaker-wheel. Figs. 4. 5, and 6 are views of modifications.
flask on the bench.
In Figs. 1 and 2, A represents the top of a molders table or bench, and B. represents the supportinglegs, while F indicates a molders To the under side of the table-top or to any other suitable part of the supply of compressed air or other motive fluid. This wheel D may be loosely mounted on its axis cl, as indicated in Fig. 1, or it may be mounted eccentrically, as indicated at D in Fig. 4, or it may be provided with cams c, Fig. 5, to strike against the hanger C, or any other suitable form of unbalanced mounting may be employed to give the desired shaking action to the table A by the revolution of the wheel when the molder turns on the power in the shape of an air-jet, for example, from the pipe E by opening the valve 6. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the rotation of the wheel 011 its loose mounting gives the desired shaking motion to the table.
. The turbine may be mounted in any other suitable way than by means of a hanger, such as O, and may be applied to any suitable molding apparatus-as, for example, to the molding flask itself, if that be large enough. Thus in Fig. 0 I have shown the wheel D as mounted upon a bearing-plate C, which can be fitted into lugs f f on the side of the flask F. On the plate 0 is fixed the nozzle 6 of the pipe E, which may be flexible.
I claim as my invention- 1. Thecombination with a molding apparatus of a shaking device consisting of an unbalanced rotary turbine-wheel with a motive fluid jet, whereby the rotation of the turbinewheel directly imparts the required shaking action.
2. The combination with a molding apparatus of a shaking device consisting of an un' balanced rotatable wheel with power means for rotating the wheel and means for turning thepower on and off.
Intestimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
