HOSE-SUPPORTER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 730,863, dated June 16, 1903.
Application filed February 5, 1903- Serial No. 141,981- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID BASOH, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New York city,county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose-Supporters, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
Hy invention relates to hose-supporters, and particularly to that class of hose-supporters adapted to be detachably secured to the front of a corset.
My invention consists in a hose-supporter comprising two separate and separable members each carrying one of the suspensiontapes and each provided with means for embracing the adjacent edges of opposite corsetsections, one of said members adapted to engage the eyepiece of one of the corset-clasps and the other of said members provided with arelatively movable locking-detent arranged to engage the same eyepiece when the parts are assembled and adjusted.
My invention also consists in providing that member which engages the corset-section carrying the studs of the corset-clasps with an undercut abutment arranged to hook onto the upper edge of one of the eyepieces of the opposite corset-section,and,further,in providing the front plate of said member with an open slot whose walls converge inwardly from the outer edge thereof to a width substantially equal to that of the shank of the corset-clasp stud in proximity to which the member is arr'an'ged to be adjusted and whose walls then diverge, so that the said member may be guided by the engagement of said slot with the shank of the corset-clasp stud to its proper position, but when so adjusted will not be in contact with the said stud nor supported directly thereby.
In operation one member of my improved hose-supporter will be applied to that section of the corset which carries the eyepiece of the corset-clasp and will be caused to engage one of said eyepieces, while the other member will be applied to the edge of that section of the corset carrying the corset-clasp studs and properly guided to its position relatively to that stud which corresponds to the eyepiece with which the other said member is in. en-
gagement. When the corset-sections are assembled and seen red together by engagement of the corset-clasps, the last said member may be secured to the eyepiece with the other said member by operation of the swinging detent, and the parts will then be assembled and adjusted for use. When it is desired to remove the corset,it will be merely necessary to swing aside the detent and then to unclasp the corset-sections, as is usual. The hosesupporter members will be retained in position and need not be removed from the cor-,
set-sections unless desired, but may be permitted to remain upon their respective sections until again used.
The objects of my invention are to permit the ready fastening and unfastening of a corset without detaching or removing either members of the hose-supporter, to support both members only from the eyepiece and without any support from the stud portion of the corset-clasp, thereby avoiding the tendency of the clasp to become unfastened by any pressure applied directly to the stud, and
to provide a simple and efficient locking means for engagement of that member carried by the corset-section carrying the corsetclasp studs, with the eyepiece of the corset constructed and arranged so that it may be quickly and readily moved toward and away from its locking position and may be retained securely in its locking position when it is so adjusted.
I will now proceed to describe a device embodying my invention and will then point out the novel features in claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a face view of a hose-supporter embodying my invention, showing same as applied to the front of the corset. Fig. 2 is a detached view, on an enlarged scale, of the separate and separable mem bers thereof, showing them separate from each other. Fig. 3 is an edgev-iswof one of the supporting members. Fig.- 4 is an edge View of the other supporting member, showing the detent thereof closed. Fig. 5 is a similar view of the same supporter member, showing the detent open and showing a section of one of the eyepieces with which the said member is arranged to engage. Each of the members is adapted to embrace an edge of one of the corset-sections. The member a has a slot 0 in its edge portion and is adapted to surround one of the eyepieces d of the corset-clasps. The member a will hence be supported by the eyepiece d. The member I) has its front plate slotted, as at e, the Walls of which slot converge from the outer edge of the plate to a point f, at which the distance between them is about equal to the diameter of the shank of the corset-clasp The walls of the slot then diverge, so that the inner portion g of the slot is quite considerably bigger than the corset clasp stud, so that while the member I) may be guided to its proper position by the slot e whenin its final. position it will be entirely out of contact with the said stud, and hence will not be supported thereby.
In order to support the member I), I have provided it with a locking-detent h, suitably pivoted att' to the front plate thereof, and provided it with an inwardly-extending pr0- jection j, which is adapted to enter the slot of the eyepiece, so as 'to lock the member I) thereto. The detent 71 further has its lower portion offset from the main portion, so that a shoulder is formed which will engage the top edge of the eyepiece and assist in supporting the member. When once closed, the detent will remain closed, because of the snap action of the hinge thereof common to such movements. The detail Fig. 7 illustrates the principle involved and shows the rear extension is of the detent as having passed beneath the pintle of the hinge under slight compression and engaging with the face of the front plate, so that some pressure is required in order to again force this extension beneath the pintle to open the detent. The lower part of the detent is bent outwardly, as at Z, to form a thumb or finger piece for the purpose of readily operating the same.
I have further provided the member I) with an undercut abutment m, projecting forwardly from its front face close to the edge thereof and which is arranged to engage the upper edge of the eyepiece carried by the opposite corset-section to that which carries the member I) when the parts are assembled and adjusted.
By my invention it will be seen that I have provided a hose-supporter comprising separate and separable members each adapted to be carried by the opposite corset-sections, but both adapted to be supported from an eyepiece of the corset-clasps independent entirely of the corresponding corset-clasp stud, and I have provided a very simple, efficient, and easily-adjusted locking means for engagement with the said eyepiece of that member which is carried by the opposite corsetsection.
What I claim is- 1. A hose-supporter comprising two members, one of which is adapted to embrace the edge of one corset-section, and to engage one of the corset-clasp eyepieces carried thereby, and the other of said members adapted to embrace the edge of the other corset-section in proximity to the corresponding corset-clasp stud carried by it, said last-mentioned member provided with an undercut abutment arranged to hook onto the upper edge of the eyepiece oi the opposite corset-section, and
with a relatively movable locking-detent, having an inwardly-extendin g projection adapted to enter the slot of said eyepiece, when the parts are assembled and adjusted.
2. A hose-supporter comprising two members, one of which is adapted to embrace the edge of one corset-section, and to engage one of the corset-clasp eyepieces carried thereby, and the other of said members adapted to embrace the edge of the other corset-section in proximity to the corresponding corsetclasp stud carried by it, said last-mentioned member provided with a relatively movable locking-detent, arranged to engage the eyepiece of the opposite corset-section when the parts are assembled and adjusted.
3. A hose-supporter comprising two members, one of which is adapted to embrace the edge of one corset-section, and to engage one of the corset-clasp eyepieces carried thereby, and the other of said members adapted to embrace the edge of the other corset-section in proximity to the corresponding corset-clasp stud carried byit, said last-mentioned member provided with a hinged locking-detent arranged to engage the eyepiece of the opposite corset-section when the parts are assembled and adjusted.
4. A hose-supporter comprising two members, one of which is adapted to embrace the edge of one corset-section, and to engage one of the corset-clasp eyepieces carried thereby, and the other of said members adapted'to embrace the edge of the other corset-section in proximity to the corresponding corset-clasp stud carried by it, said last-mentioned member provided with a hinged locking-detent having an inwardly extending projection adapted to enter the slot in the eyepiece of the opposite corset-section when the parts are assembled and adjusted.
5. A hose'supporter comprising two members, one of which is adapted to embrace the.
edge of one corset-section, and to engage one of the corset-clasp eyepieces carried thereby, and the other of said members adapted to embrace the edge of the other corset-section in proximity to the corresponding corset-clasp stud carried by it, said last-mentioned memplate, an open slot whose walls converge in-' wardly from the outer edge of the member, and then diverge again so that thesaid slot 15 will act as a guide to guide the member to its proper position, but when adjusted said member will not be supported directly by said corset-c1asp,said member carrying means for engaging the eyepiece of the opposite cor- 2o set-section when the parts are assembled and adjusted.
