This invention relates to a receptacle for ashes and the like, having vertical hollow rods or tubes secured to the vessel and a number of plungers, each plunger being adapted to rest againsta cushionof rubber placed in the interior of the tubes, so as to take up the shocks when the vessel is dropped on the ground.
The body of the receptacle is shown at a and the rods or tubes at b. These rods lor tubes are fastened to the exterior of the receptacle by a number of laps c, which are riveted to .the receptacle. The interior of eachl of the said rods or tubes is providedwith a plunger e, the upper portion of which'comes in contact with a rubber cushion f,the same being braced by a core g, made of wood-and filling the interior of the tube. l The angleiron rims h h at the top and bottom of the vessel are riveted or secured to the vesselbody. The said plungers have. secured to them the hoop z', which -is placed below and out ofcontact with the bottom of the vessel, so that when the vessel is dropped or lauded hard on the ground the plungers will give` or yield and the elastic cushions take up the shock. j
