To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARDT VILHELM EMIL RAsMUSsEN, a subject of the King of Denmark, residing at Emdrup, in the county of Copenhagen, in the Kingdom of Denmark, have invented a new and Improved Double Plow,of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to double plows designed especially for plowing on inclined surfaces, as the sides of hills, and constructed to be used in either direction and having the beam mounted to turn to coact with either share.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the'same, as will be fully described hereinafter-and then pointed out in the claim. 7
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure l is a side elevation of the improvement. Fig. 2 is a plan View, and Fig. 3 is'a'detail view, of the latch device.
B is a cross-bar, with which the plowshares A A are connected. A shaft or pivot O rests at its lower end in a bearing on the plow and extends upwardly through a bearing G on the cross-bar B and terminates at its upper end in the plow-beam K.
L represents the plow-handles, extending in an opposite direction to the plow-beam and connected with the same at its junction with the pivot or shaft 0.
Connected with the plowshares are two uprights D D each of which is formed with a recess in one of its side faces adapted to receive the plow-beam. Latches E E are pivoted at their upper ends on said uprights, and keepers F F are arranged to engage said latches. When it is desired to reverse the direction of travel of the plow, one of the 1atches-f0r instance, E-is moved outof engagement with the beam and the beam is turned to an engagement with the upright D and is fastened'i'n this position by the latch E To equalize the draft on the plow, no matter in which direction it is drawn, the following arrangementis employed: The plow-beam K is provided at its forward end with a vertically-arranged segmental head having a series of apertures formed therein. A clevis P is pivotally connected at its rear end with the beam by a bolt N, and a bolt 0 is arranged to pass through an aperture in the clevis near its forward end and through any one of the apertures in the head of the beam to vertically adjust the clevis. The forward end of the clevis is horizontally enlarged, forming a loop. The draft-hook S is connected with an arm R, arranged to turn on a bolt Q, so that the hook S can be moved to either side of the loop of the clevis, and thus correspond in lateral position with the share relative to the beam. The parts being arranged as shown in Fig. 1 after a furrow is made in one direction, then the latch E is turned up and the driver turns the team sufficiently to cause the beam K to move into engagement with the upright D below the latch E ,which is then turned down to locking position. The hook S, with the arm R, is then turned to the opposite side, and the plow is ready tocut another furrow in the opposite direction.
The plow works easily, the position of the beam can be quickly changed, and the latch devices employed securely hold the beam in position.
The plowshares are preferably so arranged that their lower edges form an obtuse angle with one another, as shown in Fig. 1, so that the lower side of the rear plow, or the one not at Work, is always slightly elevated. The
plowshares instead of having the usual form may have the form shown in Fig. 2.
The uprights D D each carries a knife, as shown in Fig. 1, for dividing the green turf in front of the plow.
