WlNDOW-SASH JOINT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 727,406, dated May 5, 1903. Application filed February 3, 1903. Serial No. 141,645. (No model.)
To all whont it may concern..-
Be it known that I, CHARLES MUNDEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Sash Joints, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the construction of window-sashes,and m ore particularly to metal sashes and to the joints thereof, and has for its object to provide a new and improved construction of the same, the object being to simplify and cheapen the construction and to form a sash-joint which will be stronger than those now in use, and consequently can be adapted for the construction of all classes of windows, as dwellings, school houses, and jails.
l/Vith these objects in view the invention consists of the details of construction and arrangement, which will more fully appearhereinafter.
Figure 1 is a front elevation showing a portion of a window-frame. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same. Fig. 3 isa detail portion of the sash in perspective, showing the joint before the same is clenched. Fig. 4 is a detail section of the sash, showing the opening through which passes the corresponding section of sash and the amplification. Fig. 5 is a View of a cross-section sash-section a and also shows a longitudinal section of the sash Z9. Fig. 6 is a sectional View of the joint, show- :ing the same clenched.
Like numerals and letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
In order to enable those skilled in the art to which myinvention appertains to make and use the same, I will now describe the same in detail, referring to the drawings, wherein The reference numeral 1 indicates the framework, which is joined together at the ends in the usual manner and rigidly secured by the rivets 2.
The sash bars or beads may be any distance apart in order that any size of glass may be accommodated, so that the window after construction may be used for any desired purpose.
The ends of the sash beads or bars may be secured in the Window-frame in any'desired manner, as I do not claim any novelty in that respect, as I am aware that these features are in themselves old; but the novel feature of my invention consists in the novel and simple manner of securing the intersecting sashbeads at their point of intersection-that is, one of the sash beads or bars is provided with an opening 4 and a connecting-slot I). Said opening may be of any desired shape or size, and below the slot 1) is provided an amplification d, which is one of the essential features of my invention. The other sash head or bar is provided with a slot 0, so situated that when the sash bead or bar containing the slot 0 is inserted in the corresponding opening 4 and slot 12 the inner side of the amplification cl will fit into the said slot 0 and by means of a blow upon the point of amplification at will securely fasten the intersecting sash beads or bars, as shown in the drawings.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a window-sash, the herein-described locking-joint, provided with an amplification upon one of the sash beads or bars, said bead or bar being provided with a receiving opening and slot, a receiving-notch so arranged upon the corresponding sash head or bar as to receive the amplification upon force being applied to the said amplification, thereby securely fastening the same, substantially as set forth and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES M'UNDEL.
