To ALL WHOM 1T MAY ooNcERN;
Beit known that I, CHRISTOP'I'IER F. CONRAD, of' the city of Adrian, in the county of' Lenawee, and State of Michigan, haveinvented anew and useful Improvement in Wind-Worms for Blacksmiths Bellows; and I do hereby declare that the following is u clear and exact description, which will enable others skilled in the urt to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters oftreference marked thereon. p v
My invention consists in providing the nozzle of' blacksmiths bellows with a serpentine channel, placed between the re ofthe forge and the nozzle of the bellows, and through which the wind is forced while passing from the latter to the former, thereby softening the blast and causing a. more even, steady, and prolonged cur- 'rent of windto be forced into the fire, and at the same time preventing the gas from entering into the bellows,
and also creating a better heat; all to be made of iron. In the drawings- Figure 1 is a perspective view of Athe interior serpentine channel or air-passage, with its surrounding walls and Hoor. k V l A Figure 2`is a perspective view ofthe lid designed to cover over and be screwed fast upon the upper surface of thatportion represented by g. 1, thus completing the interior surf-.ice of the channel;
C B, in iig. 1, represent the termini of the serpentine channel, the nozzle of the bellows fitting air-tight around the thimble A, fig. 2, and another short iron thimble tting in like manner to the thimble D, andvcommunicating with the re in the forge. The current of wind, when forced into the re, will then take the direction indicated by the arrows. The walls of the worm are to consist of two iron castings, in the form represented by figs. 1 and 2, both to be fastened together with bolts and screws a a a a, &c., and suitably packed so as to render them air-tight. The wormis to have six or any other suitable number of serpentine changes.
C'laz'm. What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The serpentine wind-channel C B, constructed land operating in the manner and for the purposes substantially as setv forth. i l
