In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front elevation of the lower portion of a harnesscollar, the hames thereon, and myimproved hame-fastener, the latter being shown in its locked position. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective View of my improved heme-fastener, showing the lever thereof in unlocked position to enable the members of the fastener to be detached from each other. My improved hame-fasteneris adapted to be used in connection with a collar a and hames b of the usual construction.
In the embodiment of my invention I pro-- spaced somewhat above the guide member 1' and at its outer end offset and securcd-there-i to, as at 4. A tubular guide member has an opening 5 in its lower side near its inner end,
which opening communicates with the bore thereof, and said tubular guide member-is further provided at its inner end'with a pair of lugs or ears 6, which extend downwardly therefrom, and on their inner sides are m. vided with notches 7. A lever Sh'as its inner portion fulcrumed between the'ears 6 on a stud, pin, or bolt 9, and the inner end of said lever is formed with a segment-pinion 10. Said lever has a longitudinal transverselyextending slot ll-near its inner end beyond the radius of the lugs or cars 6, and in the said slot is disposed "a locking bolt 12, which is movable axiallytherein, the ends of which project-laterally beyond the sides ofjt-he' lever fiand are adapted to engage the with guide-arms 13 on its sides, which bear on the si'des of the lever 8 and close the sides of the slot 11.. In the said slot is seated a spring 14, here shown as a coiled extensile spring, the function of which is to move the locking bolt into engagement with the notches 7 when the lever 8 is turned to such a position that the locking-bolt is disposed opposite said notches. g
A member 15 is movable axially in the bore ofthe tubular membe'rl, is curved to correspend with said tubular member, and is provided at its outer end with a hook 16, Whereby it may be attached to the other hame. On the'under side of said axially-movable detachable member 15 are rack-teeth l7, and the 'same are engaged by the segment-pinion 10, sothat by moving the lever Sin the direction indicated by the arrow in Fig. 2 said axially-movable rack member may be moved into the bore of the tubular member to draw the hames tightly against the flange of the collar, and by the engagement of the lockbolt 12 with the notches 'Z said-iaxially-movable member is locked inth e tubular memher when the'lever 8 isin theposition shown in Fig. 1 and disposed under-the, axiallymovable member. By reversingthe position of the lever 8, which may be done after first disengaging the spring-pressed locking-bolt from thenotches 7, the axially-movable memher is run outwardly in thejaubular member by the action of the pinion 10'and rack-teeth 17,an'd said segment-pinion finally disengages the racked axially-movable member, so that the latter may be completely detached from thetubular member to detach the hames from each-other. The bearing-arm 3 on the tubular guide member enables the latterto be held in such position with referenceto the flange of the collar'as to enable "the axiallymovable detachable .memberjldto be,readily inserted in the tubular guide member'when securing the hames on the collar. Saidbearing-arm is a spring which admits of the clastic movement of the fastener under the collar-flange and a corresponding movement of the hames on the collar, which greatly facilitates the locking of the member 15 in the guide-member l by the turning of the lever S to its locking position. The bearing-arm 3 is also useful when the fastener is employed on a collar which opens on its lower side, and when the fastener is thus used the bearingarm extends across the space between the sides of the collar.
Having thus described claim- A hame-fastener comprising a curved tub nlar guide member having means to attach it to one of the hames and having a spring-arm on its upper side to bear under the flange of my invention, .1
