To to whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GILBERT P. KNAPP, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city of New York, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Index-Cards, of which the following is a specification.
In card systems, particularly those used for record purposes, it is common practice where more than one card is used for a given subject to cut away one of the upper corners, preferably the right-hand corner, when the card has been filled.
This invention has for its object to insure uniformity in cutting, which is an advantage in reference, and to provide against the Writing on the card encroaching on the portion which is to be cut away, and thus avoid mutilation of the subject-matter when the corner is clipped.
The drawing illustrates a card having the surface of the upper right-hand corner blackened.
It not infrequently happens that the writing on the card encroaches upon the portion Serial No. 118,613. (No model.)
to be cut away, and when the corner is clipped the title or written matter is mutilated. To prevent this, I print upon, that part of the corner of the card to be cut off a solid dark color, preferably black, as shown in the drawing. The title or subject-matter if Written upon the black corner would be illegible, which fact would act as a safeguard against carelessness of this kind. Moreover, the diagonal margin of the colored corner afifords a guide for clipping, so that the cards may be uniformly clipped.
I claim as my invention- An index-card having a triangular portion at one corner of a dark color different from that of the card to serve as a guide in clipping the corner and to limit the space upon which the title is to be written.
