Description

H0 MODEL.
PATENTED APR. 21, 1903.
M. KOLF.
WINDOW SCREEN.
APPLICATION FILED 001.29, 1902.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MAX KOLF, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO ST. LOUIS ADJUSTABLE SLIDING SCREEN COMPANY, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, A CORPORATION OF MISSOURI.
. WINDOW-SCREEN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 725,725, dated April 21, 1903.
Application filed October 29, 1902. Serial No. 129,236. (No model.)
To all whmn it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAX KOLF, of the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Win- (low-Screens, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to improvements in i0 window-screens, and has for its object to provide a screen readily and tightly adjustable to any width of window and having its wirecloth surfaces kept in close contact in order to afford no opening through which insects may pass.
My invention consists in certain details of construction, which will be fully understood by reference to the drawings which form part of this specification, and in which Figure l is a vertical cross-section of my invention in place in a window. Fig. 2 is a vertical front view of same. Fig. 3 is a top or. bottom view of a screen containing my improvement. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal crosssection of the top or bottom members of a screen embodying my invention. Fig. 5 is a vertical cross-section of a screen embodying my invention.
The framework of my improved screen consists of members A and B, each of which is composed of two thicknesses of wood or other material, between which wire cloth 0 is fastened, the members .A. and B being arranged to overlap, as shown. in Fig. 4, and
5 when the screen is adjusted to the width of the window-casing the members A and Bare to be fastened together by means of the hinged clamps D, which are hinged on the upper and lower edges of the member B by means of hinges E. When the members are so adjusted and held together, the clamps D are fastened in position by the pins F. The tendency of the overlapping unfastened edges of the sheets of wire-cloth 0 being to curl and spread apart, strips G are then placed vertically back to back upon the outer faces of the overlapping edges of the wire-cloth and fastened together through both sheets of Wirecloth by the removable pins H.
Upon the upper edge of the lower side of the inner'member of the screen when in position is attached the handle I for purposes of raising and lowering the screen. The handle I is preferably made of Wire bent in the form of an inverted U, having its points sharpened and being driven in like a staple.
Having now described my invention, what .I claim as new, and desire to have secured to me by Letters Patent, is
As a new article of manufacture, an adijustable window-screen consisting of a hori- In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
