SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent No. 7 23,841, dated March 31, 1903.
Application filed January '7, 1902. Serial No. 88,814. (No model) T0 on whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY DEL MAR, a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvementin Cutting Devices, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a convenient, economical, and usefuldevice to cut and rip bagging, twine, rope, paper, clothing, 850., so constructed as to easily be worn or carried and available and within reach at all times.
In mercantile houses, where articles are packed in either paper bundles or wrapped in bagging and where rope or twine is used to tie or fasten the same, my invention becomes of practical importance and is of great assistance in cutting the paper, bagging, or other wrapping material, as well as cutting the twine, rope, or cord after the bundleis tied up.
I have illustrated my invention by the following'drawings, in which like letters refer to like parts in the different views of my devlce.
My device can be made in different forms, as shown in the drawings, each maintaining the fundamental features of a ring and cutter attachment, the knife or cutter being attached to the ring in diiferent ways.
Generally speaking, my invention consists of a ring to be worn, preferably, upon the little finger of either the left or right hand and a head in which a cutting-blade is fastened.
Referring to figures, Figure 1 is a side elevation of myinvention. Fig. 2 is an end elevation thereof, and Fig. 3 is a top plan View.
In the drawings, A designates a ring resemblingin general outline finger-rings such as are commonly worn, being adapted to encircle one of the fingers. The head of the ring has formed integral therewith a pair of lugs a a each secured to the side of the ring and extending beyond the same in a vertical plane. These lugs at their front ends incline upwardly for a purpose as will be hereinafter made obvious. A cutting-blade a is l mounted between said lugs, preferably by grooving the inner faces of the lugs, so as to readily receive the blade. The blade in a longitudinal direction is inclined upwardly with relation to the horizontal plane of the ringhead and is also inclined in a transverse plane with relation to the horizontal plane of the ring-head. The front or cutting end of the blade forms an acute angle with one of the sides of the blade and has a cutting edge. These lugs securely hold the blade and prevent the latter from having any movement, as will be observed. The ring is placed on the little finger of'either hand and is worn withoutany inconvenience or hindrance with the work of the operator, and when the cutter is to be used the cord or twine or material to be cut is pressed against the blade and by a slight movement of the hand the result is accomplished.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
1. A device of the type set forth, consisting of an integral ring for encircling one of the fingers, flanges on the head of the ring, with a cutting-blade frictionally held between said flanges by its side edges and having its cutting end inclined upwardly with relation to its rear-end. I
2. Adevice of the type set forth, consisting ofa ring with flanges on the head of the ring adjacent the ends thereof, with the flanges extending beyond the sides of the ring, and a cutting-blade angularly disposed in a longitudinal and transverse direction with relation to the horizontal plane of the head, the sides of the blade received in grooves provided therefor on the inner faces of the lugs and held in position by said lugs solely.
