HENRY GRAMLICH, OF YORK, N. Y.
BOTTLE-STOPPER.'
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 723,598, dated March 24, 1903.
Application filed November 13, 1902. Serial No. 131,166. (No model.)
To all whom it incur 0012007 71,:
Be it known that I, HENRY GRAMLIOH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Stoppers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in stoppers for bottles, the object beingto provide a stopper of simple construction and designed to pregent the fraudulent refilling of a bottle.
I will describe a bottle-stopper embodying my invention and then point out the nove features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of referenceindicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a longitudinal section of the neck portion of a bottle and of a stopper embodying my invention therein. Fig. 2 is a similar section, but showing the bottle turned to discharge liquid. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the stopper, and Fig. 4 isa section on the line as m of Fig. 3.
The stopper 1 consists of glass or any other suitable material, and it is designed to be secured within the neck 2 of a bottle. As a means for securing the stopper I have here shown lugs 3 on the inner side of the neck engaging in bayonet-slots 4, formed in the lower portion of the stopper. The lower portion of the stopper has a longitudinal bore 5, and in the exterior of the stopper at its upper portion are pockets 6, which communicate with the bore 5 through openings 7. The lower portion-s of these pockets have seats for ballvalves 8. The exterior of the stopper between the pockets is provided with channels 9, and these channels communicate with the pockets through recesses 10, formed in the stopper. It will be noted that when the stopper is in place the bottle-neck will form' the 7 outer walls for the pockets and channels.
The inner walls ofthe pockets are curved upwardly and outwardly, so that the ball-valves may roll easilyon the same.
' When it is desired to discharge liquid from the bottle, it is to be tilted or turned, as indicated in Fig. 2. roll out of their seats, permitting the liquid to pass through the bore 5 into the pockets and thence through the recesses 10 and out through the channels 9.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A bottle-stopper having a longitudinal bore in its lower portion, exterior pockets communicating with the bore, exterior channels communicating with said pockets and extended to the top of the stopper, and valves in said pockets, substantially as specified.
2. A bottle-stopper having a longitudinal bore in its lower portion, exterior pockets communicating with the bore, exterior channels arranged between the pockets, recesses providing communication between the channels and pockets, and ball-valves arranged in the pockets, substantially as specified.
3. The combination with a bottle having lugs on the inner side of its neck, of a stopper having bayonet-slots to receive said lugs, the said stopper also having a longitudinal bore in its lower portion, exterior pockets at its upper portion and communication for said bore, exterior channels between the pockets and communicating therewith, the outer walls of said channels and pockets being formed by the bottle-neck, and ball-valves arranged in the pockets, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
HENRY GRAMLICH.
