UNITED STATES "ATENT ENCE A JOHN T. BRADLEY, OFLITTLEFALLS, NEW YORK.
.SPECIFICATION forming pal-Ref Letters Patent No. 723,236, dated March 24, 1903. Application tiled February 7,1902. Serial No. 93.102. (No model To all whom it may concern/.-
Be it known that I, JOHN T. BRADLEY, a citizen ofthe United States, and a resident of Littlefalls, in the county of Herkimer and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoemakers" Measuring Devices, of which the followingis a specification. y
This invention relates to shoe-dealers measuring devices; and it consists of certain novel features of construction, which will be hereinafter fully described and nally embraced the lsize of the shoe corresponding to the measurementof the foot.
With my improved measuring device the various measurements required for fitting shoes are readily obtained. Y
The accompanying drawing is a perspectiv View of my improved foot-'measuring device. A represents the measuring bar or stick, which is made of wood or other suitable material and which is made to a sufficient width to form a support for the sole ofthe foot When placed thereon. On the face of this bar are arranged two columns of graduations B and B2 the column B' indicating the number l of the foot and the column B2 the number of i the shoe.
Secured to one end of the measuring-bar is a heelpiece C, against which the heel of the foot is placed When the measuring device is. used, the other end of the measuring-bar being provided with a handle D.
E represents a flexible measuring strap slidably mounted at a right angle to the longitudinal direction of the measuring-bar, said strap being adapted, to inclose thel foot and disclose the circumferential measurement of the same.
F represents a retaining-rod for the strap, said rod being preferably made of a piece of wire extending over the graduations and secured at each end to the central portion of the measuring bar. This Wire holds the measuring-strap to the bar Without interfering with the slidable movement of the strap on the bar.
In using the device the foot to be measured is placedon the face of the measuringbar with the heel against the heel-piece C, the size of the foot being indicated in the column B2 and the size of the shoe for such foot being indicated in the left column, the circumferential measurements of the foot being obtained `by inclosing the foot in the measuring-strap E, which is graduated in inches.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A shoemakers measuring device, comprising a measuring-bar adapted to form a footsupport said bar being provided on its face with two columns of graduations, B, and B2, the graduations B indicating the number of the foot placed thereon the graduations B2 indicating the number of the shoe adapted for such foot, a heel piece or support attachedto one end of said measuring-bar, the other end of the bar being provided with a handle, a exible measuring-strap slidably mounted at a right angle to the longitudinal direction of said bar, a retaining-rod for said strap extending over the said graduations from one end to the other and secured to the said bar, substan tially as described.
JOHN T. BRADLEY.
