TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, NOTLEY W. WORIHAM, of Union Point, in the county of Greene, and State have invented a new and useful Improvement-in Mode of Dressing Millstones; and I do hereby dei ...re that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, inlwhich- Figure 1 is a. central vertical section of the bed-stone and runner, as placed relatively to each other for grinding. I 'i Figure 2 is a. face view of the dressing on either stone.

This invention relates to an improved mode of dressing millstones for grinding Indian corn and other grain, whereby there is a large gain in the grinding capacity of the stones over the ordinary methods of dressing the stones, and a superior quality of meal is produced.
This improvement in the mode of'dressing millstones consists in the manner of laying out the 'i'urrows' and graduating the face of the stones, and regulation of the draught upon simple and effective plans, fe. scening thorough grinding and rapid movement ofthe gra-in through the stones without meshing or heating. The guiding principles in dressing or laying out the furrows are, making the master-furrows aa, which divide the face of either stone into quarter sections, one-third wider at the centre than the circumference ofthe stone, and each cross-furrow, b-b, one-third wider at the outer end than at its intersection withvthe leading furrow, :is shown in the drawing. These principles of dressing are applied alike to tho runner andthe bed-stone.
Another feature of my improved mode of dressing is, making the land c one-third ofthe width oi' the furrow, and in this proportion from end to end of such furrow. The face of the upper `stone. or ruimer A, lig. 1, is cut one-eighth of an inchdeeper at the centre thanthe circumference, so that the slope or inc line shall he gradual from the eye outward. For a four-foot stone the draught will be four and a.' half inches, and in proportion for other sizes.
Having described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patentf- The improved millstone dress, consisting of the'four furrowed sections at right angles to each other, in the manner described and for the purpose specified.
f NOTLEY W. WORTHAM.
