UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED PINION, OF CLARION, IOWA.
DlTCHlNG-PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming partrof Letters Patent No. 721,230, dated February 24, 1903.
` Application led July 12, 1902. Serial No. 115,382. (No model.)
T0 a/ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED PINION, a .citi-- zen of the United States, residing at Clarion,
in the county of Wright and State of Iowa, 5 have invented a new and useful' Ditching- Plow, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved construction of ditching-plow intended for cutting ditches or trenches for irrigating, draining, or other purposes; and the object of the invention is to provide an exceedingly cheap and simple construction of plow which will cut a ditch or trench of the proper dimensions and discharge the earth laterally at one side of the ditch or trench so dug.
With these objects in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement, all of which will be fully described hereinafter and pointed out in theclaim.
In the drawings forming part of this specication, Figure 1 is a perspective view show'- ing a ditching-plow constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view. Fig. V3 is affront view of the frame.-
In carrying out my invention I employ a frame A, consisting of the side members B and the yoke or cutting member A2. The front edges of the side members B are sharpened, as indicated at A3, to produce cutting edges. The side boards B extend rearwardly aconsiderable distance, and between the side boards B is the inclined bottom board C, which extends from the horizontal cuttingpoint D beyond one of the side boards and is curved at one side, as shown at O', and the other side board is `continued around the curved side, as shown at. B', thus producing a guiding-wall for the earth which is lifted upon'the inclined bottom and is discharged laterally at one side of the ditch or trench. Each side wall is cut away at the rear end, as shown at B2, to reduce friction. Suitable brackets Eare attached to the frame A at each side and to the upper forward ends of the side boards. The draft appliance is attached to these brackets and the plow drawn through the earth. The point will serve to cut the bottom of the trench, while the sharpened side of the frame will trim the sides of thetrench or ditch, the earth excavated being pushed up the inclined bottom C and discharged at the end of the same, the rear end of the inclined bottom being arranged at such a height that the .earth will be easily discharged to one side of the trench andabove the same.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a ditching-plow, the combination with a horizontal straight-edged plow-point, a frame comprising downwardly converging side members having vertical cutting front edges, the lower edges of said side members extending rearwardly in the plane of the cutting edgeof the point and adapted to slide on the bottom of the ditch, a yoke connecting the side members, and an upwardly and rearwardly inclined bottom terminating in a rear platform open at one side.
ALFRED PIN ION.
