STEAM-TRAP.
{SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 720,091, dated February 10, 1 903.
Application filed November 1, 1902. Serial No. 129,675. (No model.)
To all whom, it vncty concern.-
Be it known that I, ERNEST ALBERT ADAMS, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at London, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Steam- Traps, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention has for its object a simple and effective form of steam-trap, which is described with reference to the accompanying drawing, which represents a sectional elevation of the same.
In carrying the invention into effect a body a is employed, which has an inlet aperture and chamber a and an outlet aperture and chamber 0; and a web a dividing the one from the other. To the body a is fixed a tube or case b of considerable length, and to the web a is rigidly fixed another tube a, which rises up within the outer tube or case I) nearly to the top thereof and communicates with the inlet aperture and chamber a by a central hole a in the web a The outlet aperture and chamber a communicates with the space between the two tubes 6 c. The upper end of the tube or case bhas a can I) screwed thereon, and through this cap I) is screwed a pin (1, to whichis connected by pin-joint d a valve 6, which seats itself on the upper end of the internal tube a, the valve being guided by a winged stem 6, fitting the interior of said tube 0.
capable of regulation from, the exterior by means of a hand-wheel d fixed on the screwthreaded pin 01, and it can be lockedin its regulated position by a'lock-nut f. By these means the steam entering the trap will first heat it and by expanding the tube a will cause the latter to press against the valve 6,
The valve is.
and so close the passage to the outlet a When a certain quantity of condensation-water has collected, it cools, and consequently contracts the tube a, and thereby withdraws it from the valve e. The condensation-water is thus allowed to be discharged until the tube 0 is again heated and expanded by the incoming steam. By this construction great facility is afforded for regulation of the valve without removing any of the parts, and without disconnecting the trap from its connections the valve can be easily removed and its packing renewed, after which it can be replaced, when it is accurately guided to its seat byits winged stem 2 entering the tube a.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination with a steam-trap having a body provided with an inlet orifice and chamber and an outlet orifice and chamber divided from each other by a web, of a long tubular case attached to said body, a central tube fixed to an aperture in the web and extending to near the top of said tubular case, a cap on* the upper end of the case, a screw-threaded pin passing through the cap, a valve on the inner end of said pin acting in connection with the upper end of the central tube, a regulating hand-wheel on the outer end of the screw-threaded pin, and a lock-nut on said pin to lock it and the valve in the adjusted position, substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix myv signature in presence of two witnesses.
