To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, CHARLES F. KADE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sheboygan, in the county of Sheboygan and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fluid Containers or Beceptacles, of which the following is a specification. v

This invention relates to fluid containers or receptacles; and the primary object of the same is to provide a device of this class formed of glass, porcelain, or other suitable material in which retail fluids, such as inks, extracts, &c., are disposed and to be adapted to serve some useful purpose after the fluid has been exhausted. It can be used as an ink-well and after the latter fluid has been.

exhausted can be readily cleaned, filled with salt, and turned upside down and arranged for service as a salt cellar or shaker. This is only one instance of the many fluids that may be primarily disposed in the improved device; and the invention consists in theconstruction and arrangement of the several parts, which will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a container or receptacle embodying the features of the invention and disposed, for instance, as an ink-well. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section of the improved container or receptacle as shown arranged by Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 of the improved device inverted and ready for use as a salt-shaker or other analogous device after the primary liquid has been exhausted therefrom.

Similar numerals of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts in the several views.

The numeral 1 designates a hollow body, which is shown substantially sphericalin form and at one end has a dished or cupshaped extremity 2, with an opening 3 centrally formed therein and communicating with the interior of the body. The opposite extremity is formed with a foraminate closure 5, located inwardly from a surrounding or circumferential terminal rib 6, and on the exterior of said extremity, close to the location of the closure, a series of screwcorrugations 7 are provided for the removable attachment of a flanged cap 8, also formed with similar corrugations 9. In the opening 3 a stopper or closure 10 is removably mounted to render the primary contents of the container or receptacle accessible and in the afteruse of the improved device to provide convenient means for filling the body salt or other material.

The shape or contour of the device may be varied without sacrificing the features of the invention, and the material used will be of a nature capable of resisting corrosion. It is also proposed to exteriorly ornament the body by means of suitable designs burned therein or standing out in relief thereon. Between the cap 8 and the foraminate closure 5 in the primary preparation of the improved device a cork strip or disk 11 will be interposed to prevent leakage of the liquid; but after the latter has been exhausted and the container or receptacle arranged for use as a saltshaker or analogous device the cap 8 and cork strip or disk 11 are removed, as clearly shown by Fig. 3. Both extremities of the improved device have a diametrioal extent sufficient to provide a stable support for the container or receptacle when disposed on either end, the diameter of the extremity 2 in the present arrangement being greater than that of the extremity 4; but this may also be varied at will.

As before indicated, the improved device is adapted for containing many primary and secondary materials or substances and will serve efficiently as a retail novelty for introducing extracts, perfumery, inks, ointments, and other materials and afterward cleansed and arranged for holding salt, pepper, and other condiments.

Changes in the proportions, dimensions, and minor details may be resorted to in addition to those mentioned without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new is- 1. A container or receptacle, comprising a hollow body having oppositeends, one end having a central opening therein and the other foraminate, a single closing device for the central opening, and a removable cap ap- 1 with plied over the foraminate end to primarily close the latter.

2. A container or receptacle, comprising a hollow body having one extremity dished and provided with a central opening thereth rough and the opposite extremity formed with a foraminate closure, at stopper inserted in the opening of the dished extremity and a cap re movably applied to the extremity having the foraininate closure to primarily seal the latter.

3. A container or receptacle of the class set forth, comprising a hollow body with an opening through one extremity and of a foraminate closure at the opposite extremity, a stopper removably mounted in the opening of the one extremity, a sealing-disk applied against the foraminate closure, and a cap removably CHARLES F.
