Description
@reiten tetr gntwt @fitta4 IMPROVEMENT IN WOOL-CARDING MACHINE.
'ft-lgs Srllchulc munt tu im tlgrse tettera ntwt :mh making hun nfitlge time.
TO ALL WHOM I'I MAY CONCERN:
Bo it known that I, STEPHEN C. PHILBRICK, of Rockville, in the county of 'Iolland, and State of Connecticut, have invented a nevi* and useful Improvenient in Wool-Carding Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the Vart .to make and use the same, reference being 'had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specication.
The drawing represents a sectional side elevation of my improved carding-machine.
This invention relates to improvementsV in the construction of carding-lnachines, and consists inapplying additional rolls, in connection with the ,first 'breaker-c'awl1 and changing the position and run of the clothing in one of theV feed-rolls, whereby the machinery is rendered much more effective in its operation.
The working parts attached to a rst breaker-card are constructed in the usual way, except in respect to those parts constituting my improvements.
As in the ordinary machinery, A isrthe burr-cylinder, B C are the feed-rolls, D is the burr-cylinder guardroll, and E is the tumbler. In addition to these part-s, common to carding-machinesfI introduce another roll, F, on the upper side of the illeting or top roll C, and I change .the position of the clothing on the top feed-roll C by reversing it from the ordinary way of covering, so that, as the wool passes through the feed-rolls. it shall be held by the top roll, and combed oli` by the burr-cylinder A; the top roll being kept clear by the additional roll F, which thus nets as a cleaner. I also add another roll, G, forward ofthe guard-roll D,'to work between the burr-cylinder A and the tumbler and take up any chunks of Wool that may pass the burr-cylinder, und hold them until the burr-cylinder combs them out, after which the wool passes o n to the tumbler, and so onward into the first breaker-cardal'l thoroughly combed, which is not the case with the present arrangement of rolls attached to the first breaker-card, much of the wool passing the burr-cylinder without having the fibre separated.
Having thus described my' invention, what I claim as new, and'desire to secure by Letters Pat-ent, is-' The rolls GF, in combination with the rolls herein described, attached to a. first breaker-card, all constructed, arranged, and operating as set forth.
The above specification of my invention signed by me, this 12th day of August, 1867.
STEPHEN C. PHIBRICK.
