Description
@eine managment @ffnet IMPROVEMENT IN PLOUGHS.
nigerighnle referral tu in tlgisc tettrr's ntint mit making putt nf tigt tame.
Be it known that I, GEORGE Gnss, lof Canton, inthe county of Stark, in the State of Ohio, have invented :t new and-useful Improvement in Plougb's; and I hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description. thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention consists, first, in employing a beam of wood entirely straight on th'e under side, and supported at the rear end by a detachable wooden brace, the lower end of which is connected to the standard bya socket; secondly, in forming the rear loweredge of the land-side like the front lower edge of a. sleigh-runner; and thirdly, in hanging the nose of the coulter to one side, vinstead of the old method.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will describe it'by reference to the drawings.
The beam a, Figure 1, is straight on the under side, and fastened on the post in the usual manner. Ata isv a bored socket to receive one end of the round b; and at c, ou the standard, is another, to receive the other end 'oi' snid' rounder brace, forming the property of a triangular support to the plough. The rear and under side of the land-side'd is formed like a sleigh-runner. The nose of the Coulter e, Figure 2, is Banged to one side on the edge ofthe anvil, and is easily formedby this means. l l' v '.lhevadvantages of 'this construction are, first, a straight beam, .in which the grain of the wood is parallel, isthe. strongest form, and, in connection with the brace b, securedin the manner shown in the drawing at a and c lmak 1.13 it' extremelystroig and durable. It alsoretains, the beam permanently in its original pitch. The sleigh-.runner forni ofland-side renders the plough easier of control, both for tipping in oryout of pitch while ploughing, aswell as while sliding-'on the-surface at the head-land. It also makes it easier of draught on the horses'. -Tlie anged-coulter-nose is'feasily made', and has thisadvantage, inl the fact that it can be edged to the eictreme pointot theeoulter, .which canno t be don-e, by the old method. It possesses the property of angled metal, a'ndvinsurestliat strength and thinnes-s s o requisite in'adurable and easy-draught coult-er.
I do not claim broadlythe-u'se of la brace vat theihinder part of the plough, as it has been made and used in one form oitlariother;v but l What I claim as myinvention, and desire vtozseonre by Letters Patent, is-
1, The 'straight beam 1, in'com-bination'with the detachablewooden brace b fitted into sockets, for the purpose as herein specified.
2; The land-sided, of the form and for the purposes as set forth.
3.x'The coulter-nose e, made and used as andfrthe'purpose specified; and v y 4. '.l.he beam a, brace b, land-side 11, and coulter-nose e, combined to form the design specified-, when, made -and.uscd as herein described.
