QABLE HANGER. Appums'msd my as, 1902.)

UNITED STATES PERRIE H.A AUXER, OF CLEVELAND,
AUXER AND CARL P. SEYLER, OF CLEVELAND,r OHIO.
PATENT OFFICE.-
OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO FREDERICK P.
CABLE-HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 716,654, dated December 23, 1902.
Application filed May 28, 1902.
ffo @ZZ whom, t ntaty con/cern.:
Be it known that I, PERRIE H. AUXEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga. and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Cable-Hangers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact .description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in cable clips or hangers.
It consists in the novel features ot' construction hereinafter described, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate one form in which I have contemplated embodying my invention, and saidin- 'vention is fully set forth in the description and the claims.
Referring to the drawings, Figure lis a perspective view ot my device applied to a I section of the cable. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the center of the device before the band is tightened. Fig. 3 is a like view showing the device in its` clamped position, and Fig. 4 is a top plan view.
In constructing the device according to my invention I employ the ordinary band A, (which maybe made of zinc or some other suitable material,) which encircles the cable D. A link B is also provded, and one end b thereof is embraced by a bent-over end portion cof the band A. This link B is substantiallyof the form shown in Fig. 4, preferably having one side thereof bent down, as shown atrbg. Pivoted to this link is a clamping-lever C, which in this instance is formed of doubled Wire, the central portion of which forms aloop cand the two side members of which are bent so as to form coils c c', which encircles the side bar b2 of the link B,which thereby serves as a bearing for said lever. The free ends of this lever C are made into suspending-hooks c3, asshown. That lever-arm which terminates in the loop c2 lies at an angle to the other arm, Wherefore when the latter stands in a vertical position, as it does when the clamp is supporting the cable, the former may lie in the position shown, which is almost tangential to the table.
The application ofthe device is as follows: One end a of the band A is folded inward Serial No. 109,293. (No model.)
upon itself and around one of the side bars b of the link B in such manner that when the device is applied to a cable the bent-over end a. Will be clamped between the cable and the band itself. The other end o.' of the band is passed around the loop c2, the clamping-lever C having first been placed in the position shown in Fig. 2. The clamping-lever C is then forced into the position shown in Fig. 3, and bysaid movement the slack which may -be present in the band is taken up,and
ythe loop c2 will assume the position shown,
Wherefore the tension of the band tending to loosen it Willbe exerted disadvantageously almost in the plane of the pivot of the lever.
It is quite obvious from the above description that the Weight of the cable tends to tighten the grip of the device upon the same and to prevent that movement of the lever C which must take place before the band can be loosened. The slipping of the band around the loop c2 is not likely to occur it the band is not very thin and flexible; but in the construction shown any slipping is practically prevented by the bent part b2 of the link,
which as the lever is moved in the tightening direction is drawn down against the bentover end o of the hand, which is thereby bent around and in some degree clamped down against the loop c2.
Having described my invention, I claiml. In a cable hanger or clip, the combination with the band, of a link secured to said band, a clamping-lever pivoted to said link and having on one side of the pivot a loop with which the other end of the band engages, and, on the opposite side of its pivot means by which it may be suspended, substantially as described.
2. In a cable hanger or clip, the combination with the band of. a link secured to said band, a wire-clamping lever having coils passing around one side bar of said link and having a loop adapted to receive the other end of said band, and suitable hooks formed on the free ends of said wire-clamping lever, sub- ICO the bent side bar of said link and having a loop adapted to receive the other end of said band, and suitable hooks formed on the free ends of said wire-clamping lever, substantially as described.
4. In a cable hanger or clip, the combination with the band, of a link secured to said band, the side bar of said link having a bentin portion, a clamping-lever pivoted to said link, and having, on one side of the pivot, an arm which terminates in a loop, and having, on the other side of the pivot, an arm which lies at an angle to the other lever-arm and has on its end means for suspending the device, substantially as described.
5. In a cable hanger or clip, the combination of a link, a band of which one end is bent inward around one side of the link so as to lie against the cable and between it and the body of the band, a bent-Wire lever having in its side members coils which embrace the other side of the link and having on one side of said coils a loop over which the other end of the band is folded and having on the opposite sides of said coils hooks whereby to suspend the device, that side of the link which is embraced by said coils being bent down between said coils, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
PERRIE H. AUXER.
