Be it known that I, GERHARD MATHIS, a citizen of the United States, residing in New York, in the borough of Brooklyn and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements 'in Shade-Rollers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to shade-rollers of the self-acting class; and it relates particularly to an attachment mounted upon the spring-actuated pintle, which serves as a keeper by cooperating with the shade-bracket, so as to retain the shade-roller in position in the bracket, and thereby prevent the same from being accidentally displaced in the action of the roller.

To this end theinvention consists of ashaderoller provided with a spring-actuated pintle, a keeper loosely mounted on said pintle, said keeper having a wing projecting at one side and a bracket. for receiving the end of said spring-actuated pintle, said wing being adapted to cooperate with said bracket, so as to prevent the removal of the pintle, as will be more fully described hereinafter and finally pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the spring-actuated end of a shade-roller having my attachment applied thereto. Fig. 2 is an end view of the roller. Fig. 3 is a detail view of a bracket; and Figs. at and 5 are vertical transverse sections, respectively, on lines at 4 and 5 5, Fig.1.

Referring to the drawings, A represents the shade roller, which is provided with the spring-actuated pintle a, the latter being attached to the roller in the usual manner. The bracket B,that is provided with a slotted barrel b, is of usual construction for receiving the rectangular end of the spring-actuated pintle a. The pintle 0 adjacent to the end of the roller is provided with an annular flange a, and between said flange and the end of the roller is loosely mounted on the pintle a keeper, which consists of a diskshape'd portion 0, having a wing c that projects to one side from a portion of its edge. The wing 0 extends beyond the plane of the front surface of the barrel of the bracket and is disposed below the barrel in close proximity thereto when the pintle is seated in the the wing of the keeper is held in the position above the pintle, as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1, the pintle being thereby permitted to drop into the slotted barrel of the bracket and become seated therein in the usual manner, whereupon the keeper is turned around on the pintle to a position below the barrel of the bracket, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 5. In this position the wing extends beyond the front surface of the barrel of the bracket, so as to engage with-the latter in order to preventanyupward movementof the pintlein the recess of the bracket, and consequently preventing the accidental displacement during the action of the shade-roller. When it is desired to remove the shade-roller from the bracket, the keeper is turned to the uppermost position, as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1, so that the Wing is moved out of the path of the barrel of the bracket to permit the ready removal of the pintle therefrom.

By means of this simple and inexpensive attachment the accidental disengagement of the shade-roller from its brackets is effectively prevented. The attachment is easily operated, so that the setting up of the shaderoller and its removal from the brackets are accomplished with facility.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a shade-roller, the combination, of a spring-actuated pintle, a bracket for said pintle, and a swinging keeper on said pintle adapted to cooperate with said bracket for retaining said pintle in the latter, substantially as set forth.

2. In a shade-roller, the combination, of a spring-actuated pintle, a bracket having a slotted barrel, and a movable keeper on said pintle'adapted to engage the exterior portion of the barrel of the bracket, substantially as set forth.
