These plates 20 are pivoted to a side of the churnbody, and their meeting edges are notched to receive the grooved portion of the dashershaft, the free ends of the plates being secured together by-a suitable catch or fastening means 22 and held from outward dis placement by a keeper 23. These pivoted plates 20, in addition to holding the dashershaft from longitudinal movement, serve to prevent the escape of any liquid from the opening through which the dasher-shaft is passed.
The speed-gears a and b consist of coggearing of difierent diameters secured to the outer end of the dasher-shaftin any convenient way, either one being adapted to mesh with the cog-gearing of the driver 2. The lateral and longitudinal adjustment of the churn-body enables any selected element a orb of the speed-gearing 16 to mesh with the A proper adjustment of the setscrews 14 secures the churn-body in an adjusted position. While the chu rn-power may run at a uniform speed, the dasher may be caused to run fast or slow by means of the speed-gearing 16, as will be readily comprehended.
The churn-body is adjusted or moved laterally by hand, the movement being such as to admit of one or the other of the gears a and 1) coming in the plane of the driver 2. The longitudinal adjustment may be effected by proper movement of the set-screws 14 or by hand, as may be desired. After the churnbody has been properly adjusted it is secured, as stated, by means of the set-screws 14 and the bow-spring 15.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- 1. In combination, a churn-power comprising a driver, a laterally and longitudinally adjustable churn-body, a dasher horizontally mounted in the churn-body, speed-gearing applied to the dasher-shaft and comprising a plurality of gears of difierent diameter and adapted to have a gear intermesh with the aforesaid driver, and means for securing the churn-bodyin an adjusted position, substantially as specified.
2. In combination, a churn-power comprising a driver, a laterally and longitudinally adjustable churn-body, means for securing the churn-body in an adjusted position, a dasher movably fitted within the churn-body and adapted to rotate about a horizontal axis, a dasher-shaft movably fitted to the churnbody and adapted to support and interlock with the dasher, and speed-gearing at the outer end of the dasher-shaft and adapted to have any one of the same comprising a plurality of gears of diflferent diameter intermesh with the aforementioned driver, substantially as specified.
3. In combination, a churn-power comprising a driver, a laterally and longitudinally adjustable churn-body, means for securing the body in an adjusted position, a dasher removably fitted within the churn body, a dasher-shaft forming a support for and adapted to interlock with the dasher, speed-gearing at the outer end of the dasher-shaft comprising a plurality of gears of diiferent diameter, one of said gears being adapted to intermesh with the aforesaid driver, and means applied to a side of the churn-body to prevent longitudinal movement'of the dashershaft and prevent the escape of any liquid from the opening through which the dashershaft is passed, substantially as specified.
4. In combination, a churn-power comprising a driver, a stand at one side of the churnpower, set-screws at opposite ends of the stand,a churn-body adjustable longitudinally and laterally upon the stand and adapted to be held in an adjusted position by means of the set-screws, a spring between the churnbody and one of the set-screws to prevent binding of the gearing between the churnpower and dasher-shaft, a dasher arranged to operate within the churn-body, and speedgearing applied to the dasher-shaft and comprisinga plurality of gears of ditferent diameter, one of said gears being adapted to intermesh with the aforesaid driver, substantially as set forth.
