Be it known that I, J OHN HOWARD MCCUL LOCH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newville, in the county of Cumberland, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Inhalers, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon. a

My invention relates to an improvement in that class of instruments known as inhalers in which the mouth-tube or air-inhaling tube is fitted with a sponge or other suitable absorbent material supplied with medicament, this central tube communicating with two nose-tubes adapted to contain medicine which, in connection with the medicine on the sponge, produces the desired effect.

I am aware that it has been proposed to provide an inhaler composed of two side inhaling-tubes and a central tube, the latter open at both ends and communicating with the side tubes, as shown, for example, in Patent No. 134,858, of January 14, 1879, granted to W. R. Crumb.

The object of my invention, however, is to provide a simple device which can be readily carried in the vest-pocket, the mouthpiece being arranged to rotate with respect to the nasal tubes and when folded to lie between them.

The invention therefore consists, primarily, of a medicator comprising side parallel nasal tubes and a rotatable mouth-tube communicatin g therewith.

Secondly, it consists of a medicator having parallel side nasal tubes with projecting lower portions and a mouth-tube having projecting lower portions adapted to rot-atably engage the said projecting lower portions.

Again, it comprises the provision of openings in the walls of one or both of the pro jecting lower portions of the mouth tube adapted to be brought into registry with an opening or openings in one or both of the projecting lower portions of the nasal tubes whereby without trouble medicament can be supplied directly to the sponge in the mouthtube.

Finally, the invention consists in the matters hereinafter described, and referred to in the appended claims.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is an elevation, partly in section, of my improved medicator. Fig. 2 represents an elbow and one of the side tubes in detail. Fig. 3 represents in detail the mouth-tube. Fig. 4 represents a perspective view of the device in position for use.

In the drawings, A A represent caps or nosetubes having openings in their upper ends, each adapted to contain medicine of somecharacter suitable for the purpose. These caps fit at their lower ends over sections B B of elbows, the lateral projections of said elbows embracing the projecting ends 0 of the lower end of the mouthpiece D. By this arrangement the mouthpiece D may be rotated with respect to the nosepieces A, so as to be folded down between them when it is desired to store the device in the pocket or otherwise place it out of use. The mouthpiece is perforated at its upper end and is provided in one or both of its lower projecting portions with an opening 6, adapted to register when desired with an opening 5 in one or both of the elbows. By this arrangement medicamentcan be supplied directly to the sponge or other absorbent material within the mouthpiece.

I do not wish to be limited to the details of construction herein set forth so far as the broad feature of the invention is concerned, as various modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.

In operation the two nosepieces are inserted in the nostrils and the mouthpiece in the mouth, and by blowing through the latter the medicament is supplied.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A medicator, comprising parallel side nasal tubes, and a mouth-tube communicating therewith and rotating upon an axis transverse to the side tubes, whereby said mouthtube may be folded to lie inthe same plane with the side tubes; substantially as described.

Amedicator,comprisingparallel side nasal tubes having projecting lower portions with a peripheral opening, and a mouth-tube, having projections rotatably secured to said projecting lower portions, and having'a peripheral opening registering with the peripheral opening in the projecting lower portion of the nasal tube; substantially as described.
