SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 707,185, dated August 19, 1902. Application filed DecemberG, 1900. Serial No. 38,957- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern TER, engineer, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and a resident of 28 Schonhauser, Allee, Berlin, in the Province of' Branden-; burg, Germany, have invented certain new; and useful Improvements in and in'Connection with Incandescent Gas-Lamps; and I do.
hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to makeand use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to incandescent gaslamps which have the appearance when in use of burning with inverted flames. In a lamp of this kind according to this inven tion the gas-supply pipe passes through the interior of the chimney, and thereby effects a The very considerable heating of thegas. lamp has preferably no cook; but when it is. unscrewed from the piping the said pipingjis automatically closed, so that an accidental escape of gas is impossible.

Since, as will be seen; the gas-supply pipeis arranged in this lamp in the interior of the I chimney, the gas is considerably heated and the efliciency is very much increased. The heat generated is so great that it is necessary to insulate the burner'by' means of a ring of suitable material, as asbestos. Having thus'described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desiretosecure by Letters Patent of the United States of America, is- I 1. In a gas-lamp, a burner, a mantletsus, pended over the same, a chimney and-one or more gas-feed pipes between the chimney and the mantle, substantially as set forth.
2. In a gas-lamp, a burner, a mantle suspended over the the same,a chimney, a burnersupport forming, a mixing-chamber and provided with air-inlets, an air-tight chamber forming part thereof and gas-pipes proximate the exterior of the mantle, passing through the chimney and the mixing-chamber to the air-tight chamber, means for admitting gas from the air-tight chamber to the mixingchamber and a pilot-flame burner proximate the exterior of the mantle fed by one of said pipes, substantially as set forth.
3. In a gas-lamp, a mixingchamber, a burner connected therewith and an incandescible mantle surrounding the burner, a bifurcated gas-feed pipe whose branches are in communication with said mixing-chamber, one of said branches provided with a jet-orifice proximate to the mantle, and means for arbitrarily controlling the supply of gas to the mixing-chamber; in combination with a chimney surrounding the burner and feedpipe, for the purpose set forth.
4. A gas-lamp comprising a mixing-chamber, a burner connected therewith, an incandescible mantle surrounding the burner and a bifurcated gas-feed pipe in communication with said mixing-chamber and having an extension between its branches provided with a hook for supporting the aforesaid mantle, for the purpose set forth.
5. In a gas-lamp, a mixing-chamber, a burner connected therewith, an incandesoible mantle surrounding said burner, a bifurcated gas-feed pipe whose branches are in communication with said mixing-chamber, an extension from said pipe between its branches and a hook screwed into said extension for supporting the incandescible mantle; in combination with a chimney surrounding the mantle and feed-pipe, for the purpose set forth.
6. In a gas-lamp, a burner, a mantle suspended over the same, a chimney, gas-feed pipes in the form of a rectangle between the chimney and mantle, and a jet-orifice in one of said pipes proximate the lower portion of the mantle, substantially as set forth.
7, In a gas-lamp, a burner, a mantle suspended over the same, ahurner-support of insulating material, a mixing-chamber forming part of the support and provided with airinlets, a gas-chamber below and forming part of the mixing-chamber, a chimney, gas-pipes proximate the exterior of the mantle passing through the chimney and the mixing-chamber to the gas-chamber, one of said pipes provided with a pilot-flame orifice and a needlcvalve to control the exit of gas from the gaschamber to the mixing-chamber and burner, substantially as set forth.
