Description

No. 705,920. Patented July 29, I902.
m. GOTTSCHALK.
STRAIGHTENING CASE FOR THE FINGER.
Application filed. Jan. 3, 1902.}
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARIE GOTTSOHALK, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
STRAlGHTENlNG-CASE FOR THE FINGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 705,920, dated July 29, 1902.
Application filed January 3, 1902. Serial No. 88,354. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARIE GOT'ISCHALK, a,
subject of the King of Prussia, Emperor of Germany, residing at 22 None Konigstrasse, Berlin, Prussia, Germany, have invented a certain new and useful Straightening-Case for the Finger, of which the following is a specification.
It is well known that children, particularly school children in the early stages, through insufficient supervision contract the habit of bending the index-finger while writing, so that apart from the unsightly appearance they have an inadequate grasp of the penholder. By means of the present invention the child may now be accustomed always to keep the finger extended, so that from the earliest attempts at writing an easyguidance of the pen is secured and the annoying writers cramp in the fingers is avoided.
In the accompanying drawings a case to keep the finger from being involuntarily bent is illustrated in perspective in Figure 1 and shown in use in Fig. 2.
This straightening-case consists of a plate a of any optional material-such as-metal, horn, india-rubber, vulcanite, papier-mach, celluloid, or the likewhich is so retained on the finger by a fastening that the fin ger-j oint in question comes below the plate. At each end or in any other suitable position a fastoning is provided. In the present instance it is composed of rings or collars b, which encircle the finger and bring the plate a and the corresponding portions of the finger into a fixed connection. Instead of these collars b any other means of producing the same effect m ade from similar or other materials may be employed. If the above straighteningcase is employed,a strain is produced over the finger-joint when the finger is bent, so that the scholar feels a certain amount of discom fort and is compelled to bring back the finger into its extended position, so that the involuntary habit of holding the finger in a bent position is prevented.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is=
A straightening-case for the finger comprising a plate a of rigid material and suitable fastening devices for affixing the said plate to the finger over the finger-joint, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof. I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
MARIE GOTTSCHALK.
