WOODEN PANEL, LINING, CEILING, AND FLOOR FOR BUILDINGS, &c., AND PAVING FOR STREETS.
SEEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 705,737, dated July 29, 1902. Application tiled August 3, 1901. Serial No. 70,709. (No model.)4
To @ZZ wwm, t may concern:
Be it `known that I, WALTER THoMAs GROSSE, engineer, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at 13 Regent street, in the county of Middlesex, England, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Wooden Panels, Linings,` Ceilings, and Floors for Buildings and other Structures and Paving for Streets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in wooden panels, linings, ceilings, and iloors for buildings and other structures and paving for streets.
. According to this invention one or more dovetail grooves are made in the hack of a board, block, or lath. The sides of the boards, blocks, or laths maybe squ are or may be made with ribs and grooves to fit one into the other.
`The laths are fitted together back to back either with the dovetail grooves in the same direction or with the dovetail grooves at right angles to each other, and theyrmay also be glued or cemented together or nailed or riveted. Y.
The drawings illustrate constructions made in accordance with this invention.
Figure l shows a plan, and Fig. 2 a transverse section when the dovetail grooves in the laths are all longitudinal. Figs. 3 and 4 show similar views when the one set of laths have longitudinal dovetails and the other set transverse. Fig. 5 is a plan of a panel cut on a skew.
In Figs. l and 2, d a are one set of laths,
'having longitudinal dovetail grooves I), and
c c are the other set, also having longitudinal dovetail grooves d.
In Figs. 3 and 4, c e are one set of laths, having longitudinal dovetail grooves f, and g g are the other set, having transverse dovetail grooves h h.
In both constructions the laths in each set are arranged side by side, and the dovetails on one set of laths t into the dovetail grooves on the other set.'` The sideof adjacent laths of either set may abut against each other, as is shown at lc', or adjacent laths may have tongues and grooves, as is shown at I..
In some cases it may he desirable to t more than two sets of laths together.
The size of the laths may he varied. In constructing parquet-nooring one set of laths may consist of small lengths of different-colored woods, and, if desired, after they have been fitted together a panel may be cut on the skew and the panels formed into a fioor. This is shown in Fig. 5. 4 o. d are one set of laths, which are put together on the skew. The projecting ends m (shown in dotted lines) are cut ed, thus making a panel. The laths ct may be made up of small lengths of diEerent-colored woods, such as n.
In all cases after the laths have been tted together the face may be polished, coated, papered, or ornamented in any way.
In this specification and in the claims the word lath is interchangeable with the words block or board.
l. Two sets of laths, the laths in one set having longitudinal dovetail grooves and the laths in the other set having transverse dovetail grooves, the dovetails on two adjacent laths of one set fitting into a dovetail groove of a lath of the other set.
2. Two sets of laths, the laths in each set arranged side hy side and abutting against one another, the laths in one set having longitudinal dovetail grooves and the laths in the other set having transverse dovetail grooves, the dovetails on two adjacent laths of one set fitting into a dovetail groove of a lath' of the other set.
3. Two sets of laths, the laths in each set arranged side by side, a tongue on one lath fitting into a groove on the adjacent lath, the laths in one set having longitudinal dovetail grooves and the laths in the other sethaving transverse dovetail grooves, the dovetails on two adjacent laths of one set tting into a dovetail groove of a lath of the other set.
