Be it known that l, COMMODORE DANN-ILS, of Fremont, Sandusky county, Ohio, lizire'iiivcuted certain new' and useful Improvements in Floating Mills; -aiid I hereby dechire thnt the following is :i true, full. :ind ,exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, und vto the letters of reference marked thereon. In thc annexed drawings, which make :i pnrt of this specification- Figure 1 'represents a. front elevation of the iiatcr-wliecls, and of the platform and4 boats which support said wheels.

The nature of-my invention consists in constructing a wheel or wheels to bepropelled either by the current of running streams or by tide-watcr, in the manner hereinafter described.
The letter A represents a. platform, of suitable length, and adapted in wutn to the number of wheels to -be placed on it. The said platform will be strengthened by longitudinal sleepers at its bottom, and also by crossties, c. B designates one of, the sides of platform A, (see fig. 1,.) and will be about four feet in depth,'but can be increased in measure if the size of thc water-wheels should require it. The sides B will be strengthened and prevented from bulging out bythe stays or uprights c which rest on cross-ties c. D D (see fig. 4) represent tno boats resting on `and extending lengthwise oflplatform A. The said boats are so arranged as to admit of' the play of three watcrfwheels, Fonewireelheugbetwe'enthc ,twodioatsfand each oi' the' others being placed l between a bout nud the side B. My three wheels may beconstructed on a single shaft, in which case the `)ournals will rest on bearings placed upon the sliding frame G. In case each wheel should have a. separate shaft, so that any one may -be removed for repairs without interfering with the action of the other two, the shafts can be coupled together in the ordinary way. The frame G, it will he observed, is made to slide between timbers H which are placed en the top of the boats lengthwise. By this arrangement the water-wheelsF can bc removed from near the end of platform A to its centre when advisable. In order still further to control the water ,acting on the two outer wheels, the
sliding gates L and hinged gates M are provided. The gate L is placed in the sides B, and the gates M hinged, by means of the strap-hinges S, to the front ends of sides B, (sce figs. 2 and d.)
