UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDIVARD IMHOOF, OF ZURICH, SWITZERLAND.
CLOTHES-LINE.
SPECIFICATIGN forming part of Letters Patent No. 7 022,952, dated June 24, 1902.
Application filed September 28, 1901, Serial No. 76,858. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD IMHOOF, a citizen of Switzerland, residing in Zurich, in the canton of Zurich, Republic of Switzerland, (whose post-office address is Zollikerstrasse 22, Zurich, Switzerland,) have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Lines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will onable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The invention consists in the features hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the apparatus. Fig. 2 is a top view of a part of the apparatus. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same part, and Fig. 4: shows a portion of the running-rope with a ring.
a and b are casings, which are open at the bottom and penetrated by two screw-bolts c and d, on which are loosely mounted guiderollers e and f, with an endless running-rope g slung over the two rolls f. To prevent the running-rope g from slipping out of the rollers, the latter are provided with grooves h and h.
At regular intervals there are clamped onto the running-rope g, Fig. 4, by means of grooves 2', small rings 70, in the grooves of which hang strands of twisted Wire Z, carrying another endless rope, called carryingrope, m. This latter carrying-rope m, which revolves together with the running-ropeis the clothes-line of the apparatus, and on it the washing may be hung in the usual Way. The
vrings 7C are held on the rope by pressing the metal forming the bottom of the groove "i into firm contact with the rope.
The casings a and b of the apparatus can be hooked at any convenient place by means of the eyes it and 0, which form a part of the casings.
A person can start to hang up washing at any place of the carrying-rope, and by pulling on the running-rope g the carrying-rope m, with the washing on it, can be kept revolving, and its revolution will not be interfered with at any of the two reversing-points, as the carrying-rope will travel underneath the running-rope lfree and without obstruction,
thereby enabling the washing to be hung on both sides of the carrying-line or on its entire length. The washing can therefore now be hung up and removed successively as soon as any of the pieces are dried by revolving the running-rope step by step;
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- In combination with the running-rope, the grooved rings clamped thereon by means of the grooved portion, the depending supports carried in the grooves of the said rings and the clothes line carried by the depending supports, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 18th day of September, 1901.
EDWARD IMHOOF. Witnesses:
A. LIEBER'KNECHT, HERMAN HUBER.
