DEVICE FOR SHARPENING SAWS.
srnorrrcnrron forming ea of Letters Patent No. 702,150, dated. June 10, 1902.
Application filed July 20,1901. Serial No; 69,163. (No modeld To all whom it may concern-.-
Be it known that I, OSKAR EDMUND PEIS-.
ELER, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Alte Freiheitstr'asse 5, in'the city of Remscheid, Empire of Germany, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Means for Sharpening Saws, of which'the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
This invention relates to means for sharpening saw-teeth of an y kind of saws by hand; and it consists in a saw-file without point and tongue, which is turnably secured in a holder, so that any side pressure upon the holder will not injure the'file itself and all the teeth keep their shape.
On the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 2, 3, and 4 are cross-sections.
The instrument consists of a saw-file a and a holder b. The first o'ne'has neither a point nor a tongue, but is cut off at both ends, so
as to form a file of equal section throughout its length. The upper and lower faces of the three-edged file are providedwith three center punches 0, arranged as near as possible to the edge of the file. The holder Z) consists of a bow, in the square ends of which two pointed screws (1 are fixed for the purpose of j ournaling the file in such a manner that it can freely movewith the edge downward. -To prevent its rotation, a projection h is provided on the inner face of the strap; v
As seen from the sectional figures, the file if inserted into the tooth will equally attack the edges of the same. Side pressures will cause only the holderto assume a side movement. The work with such a file may be done by unpracticedlaborers, and the files are considerably cheaper, as the point and tongue are lacking} "The movement of the file may be also prevented by a set-screw g,
projecting through the strap and pressing on the file, as shown.
What I claim, anddesire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A saw-sharpening device consisting of a holder said holder having two oppositely-ab ranged pointed screws and a projection arranged at its inner side'a file adapted to fit between the screws said file being angular and of uniform cross-section, and provided at its ends near each corner with an indentation whereby the file is held eccentrically in its holder for the purpose described.
