ABRAHAM L. DARR, OF CARROLL, IOWA, ASSIGNOR TO WIN FIELD A. DARR AND HARRY E. DARR, OF CARROLL, IOWA.
DETACHABLE FASTENER FOR WINDOW-SASHESf' SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 702,089, dated June 10, H502. Application filed March 8, 1902- Serial No. 97,325. (No model.)
Sash to the Outside of a Window-Frame, of
which the following is a specification.
My object is to provide means for detachably fastening an auxiliary'sash againstthe outside of a window-frame without going outside of the building, so that a sash containing fixed window-glass can be readily putin place in winter to aid in keeping a house warm and also readily replaced by a sash havingfixed wire-screen material to prevent thepassage of flies and to admit fresh air in warm weather 1 when the slidingsashesin theframe are in position as required for ventilation.
My invention consists in'the construction and application of sash-fastening devices with a plain movable sash andthe facings of a window-frame in a building,as hereinafter set forth, pointed out in my claim, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings,in which adapted to be fixed to the flat surfac'e'of a window-frame facing; Fig.2 .is a link made of wire for detachably connecting an eccentric with a movable sash and a bracket fixed on a window-frame. Fig. 3 is'an eccentric on the end of alever made of wire. Fig. 4
shows the link and eccentric pivotally con nected. Fig. 5 shows a link made of a straight flat piece of metal. Fig. 6 shows an eccentric and lever made of cast metal. Fig.7 is a detail view showing a section of a window-frame and a piece of an auxiliary sash detachablyv p frame as required for use in summer-time.
The numeral 10 designates a bracket of elbow shape. One end portion is provided with screw-holes, and the. other end has an open slot for the admission of a link.
A link 12 is made of wire, as shown in Fig. 2, or a fiat metal strap 13, as shown in Fig. 5. A lever and eccentric 14 may be made of Figure l is a perspective view of a bracket wire, as shown in Fig. 3, or cast in a mold, and the, eccentric end portion 15 of thelever bifurcated, as shown in Fig.6,and the flat metal link and cast-metal lever applied, as shown in Fig. 7, for detachably'fastening an auxiliary sash 16to the outside of a windowframe casing. When a bracket-10 is fixed to the top portion of each side of a windowframe and also to its lower portion and links 12' pivotally connected with the eccentric ends of the lovers and also pivotally connect- ;ed with the auxiliary sash, as shown in Fi 7, or in any suitable way at four distinct places corresponding with the four fixed brackets, the sash can be passed out through an open window to rest upon the window-sill, as shown in Fig. 8, and the pivoted links placed in the slots in the fixed brackets 10 and the levers then pressed down, so that the eccentrics in engagement with the brackets will 7 draw the sash tight against the outside of the window-frame as required to detachably fasten the auxiliary sash to the outside facing of the fixed window-frame. It is obvious a re verse or upward motion of the lovers and a removal of the links from the brackets will free the auxiliary sash, so it can be taken in i again: when the window is: open. ..Storm sashes and screens can be thus interchangeably. and advantageously put in 'position as required for alternate use in different seasons for promoting comfortin a building. 7 Having thus described the construction and .operation of my invention, its practical utility will be readily understood by persons familiar with the art to which it pertains.
What I claim as new,"and desire'to secure by Letters Patent, is-
bracket adapted to be fixed to a window-frame to project outward and provided with an open slot to admit alink and a lever having an eccentric at one end pivoted to one end of a link and a link pivotallyconnected with the eccentric end of the lever and adapted to be pivotally connected with a window-sash, for the purposes stated. a r
