Description
@einen gieten etnt @frn WILLIAM H. FORKER, OF MEADVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
Letters Patent No. 70,188, dated October' 29, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT IN MACHINE FOR OPENING GANS.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONGERN;
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. FORKER, of the city of Meadville, in the county of Crawford, State of Pennsylvania., have invented a new and improved Tool for Opening Oyster and Fruit-Cans; andI do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon. l
Avis a handle, of wood, with a base, R, turned thereon. From this base R isi another handle or lev'er, B,
projecting at right angles to the handle A. In the base R are one or more grooves E cut into the hase like a key-seat on a shaft of machinery. In this groove E is placed the knife C C, and attached to the base R. by the screw D, which vpasses through a slot, 1 2, in `the knife C C. By this slot and screwthe knife may be adjusted so as to project below the base R as far as may be desired. F is a steel point fixed in the eentreof the base R. i
The operation is as follows, to wit: The point F is driven through the tin of the vcan to be opened by a blowon the handle A, as is also the point ofthe knife C C, when the tool is turned by the handle B, thereby cutting a circular piece out of the can. There may be one, two, three, or lfour knives attached to the base R. if .the same may be desired. i
What'I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows, to wit: I claim the handle A, with the base R, and the handle or lever B, constructed as described, when the same are in combination with the knife C C and the point F, as described, and for the purposes set forth.
I WM. I-I. FORKER.
