Description

No. 7o|,51s. v Patented Inns 3, I902. u. CQKOSSOW. Y
' IIETALLIG SEAL.
(Application mm m. 17, 1902.

- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY- o. Kossow, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
METALLIC, SEAL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 701,579, dated June 3, 1902.
Application filed February 17, 1902. Serial No. 94,341. [No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY C.K0ss0W,a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Metallic Seals; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
The improvements consist in peculiarities of construction and combination of parts hereinafter particularly set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed, the object of the invention being to provide economical metallic seals the ends of which cannot be'easily reunited after having been joined and parted, said seals being of the kind that consist of flexible metal strips having compressible metal plugs in connection therewith and which are.
commonly used for sealing freight-car doors,
packing-case lids, and other closures.
Figure l of the drawings represents a perspective view of one end of; the strip of one of my improved metallic seals before'a com- A pressible metal plug is molded thereon; Fig. 2, a similar view illustrating the plug incon: nection with the strip; 'Fig. 3, a planview. of one side of the plug end of the seal, and Fig. 4; a partly sectional elevation of said seal.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A in plug is chilled where it has contact with the strip and'prongs of same. Consequently said plug is brittle next itsfhead, and experiment has demonstrated that parting of the joined ends of a seal will cause the upset pl'ug portion of same with said prongs to break short off from said strip. Hence the seal cannot be easily reunited at its ends -to havef 'the appearance of being unbroken.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by'Letters Patent, is-',
A metallic seallcomprising a flexible metal striphaving 'a' plurality'of prongs struck up out of one end-thereof .all clear of one another from the striplto their outer extremities, and a compressible metal plug molded on said strip to embed and conceal the prongs of same, the plug-shank'being engageable with an aperture provided in the other end of the aforesaid strip.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, in the presence of two witnesses. I-IENRYO. KOSSOWJ Witnesses: r 7
