CAKE-PAN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 701,198, dated May 27, 1902. Application filed August 24, 1901. Serial No. 73,155. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I,MARY A. GRANT,a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Anthony, in the county of Fremont and State of Idaho, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cake-Pans,-of which the following is a specification. v
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in cake-pans; and its primary object is to provide a device of this character having a removable bottom wherebya baked cake maybe readily lifted from the pan with out breaking or otherwise becoming marred.
A further object is to provide means for locking the bottom in position in the pan.
Another object is to employ a frame adapted to be attached to the pan and to support a covering of paper or other material over the device.
With these and other objects in view, the nature of which will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully de scribed, illustrated, and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the pan. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the pan with the bottom and wire-supporting frame removed. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the bottom detached. Fig. 4 is a similar view of the wire-supporting frame.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in the several views.
Referring to the drawings, 1 1 1 are the three sides of the body of a rectangular pan, and each is provided at its lower edge with an inwardly-extending flange 2, a cross-strip 3 connecting said flanges at the open end of the pan-body.
A plate 4 constitutes the bottom of the pan and is adapted to fit snugly upon the flanges 2 and strip 3. This plate is formed with the fourth side 5 of the pan. Said side 5 is provided at each side edge with a grooved or V- shaped extension 6, both of which are adapted .to receive the free ends of the opposite sides 1 when the bottom 4 is in proper position.
Spring-hooks 7 are hinged to the outer face of each free end of the opposite sides 1 and are adapted to swing inward into engagement with the grooved extensions 6, thereby proventing longitudinal movement of the bottom. Vertical movement is prevented by a bead 8, which is arranged along the upper edges of the sides 1 and extends over the extensions 6, as shown.
Ears 9 are provided near each end of one of the sides 1 and are adapted to receive the ends 10 of a wire frame 11. This frame may be of any desiredform and is adapted to extend over the pan, thereby serving to support a paper or other article placed thereover to prevent burning of the cake.
It is thought that the manner in which the pan is used will be obvious.
When it is desired to remove the cake, the side 5 is released from the hooks '7, and the bottom 4, together with the side 5, can then be lifted or slid out of position.
A ring 12 is preferably arranged on the side 5, so that it may be readily grasped. With this construction the sides of the pan may be formed at exact right angles to the bottom, thereby permitting the making of a layer cake having smooth vertical sides.
It will of course be understood that various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-
The combination with a body having an open side, flanges extending from the remainin g sides, and a connecting-strip; of a removable bottom adapted to rest upon the flanges and strip, a side thereto, grooved extensions to said side adapted to receive the free ends of the sides of the body, hooks pivoted to said free ends and adapted to engage the extensions, and a frame detachably secured to and extending over the body.
