TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, JACOB PrITzIXui-m, of the city of Buffalo, county of Erie, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Coal-Hod; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure I is a bottom plan view. The nature of this invention consists, first, in making a malleable iron bottom, havingv an aperture and hingedwalve, with projecting handle for operating the valve, and a short pipe connection for conducting the coal from the hod into the stove second, attaching a skeleton-frame to the lower part of the hod, upon which the bed is supported, and by means of which the hod may be set 'upon the stove, and the valve left free to work and discharge the coal into the stove.
Having reference to thedrawings, the letter A represents the main body of the hod, which may be made in any common and well-known form and manner. ireprcsents an aperture mad'ethrough the bottom, which may be of any required diameter. This bottom is made of malleable iron. C represents a door or valve, which is hinged to the bottom, as shown at c. It has a projecting handle, by which it is moved to open or close it, as shown at 0 This valve may be round to correspond with the opening, and a little larger in-diameter, and it may be made alittle dishing to catch the dust and drippings from the coahif there should chance to be any. 1) represents a short pipe projecting from theopening to guide the coal into the stove or furnace. E is a skeleton frame which isattachcd to the bottom of the hod, and upon which the hod stands sufficiently elevated to allow of the free working of the valve, and give room for the projection ofthe discharge pipe. The handle of the valve projects through the frame. This frame may be made of cast metal malleableized, or it may be made of small bars or rods of wrought iron, as may be preferred. The bail of the hod is shown at F.
A eoal-hod constructed as herein described is less liable to scatter coal upon the floor, and requires less labor and fatigue in supplying a stove or furnace with coal, and is more economical and cleanly in use than I those heretofore constructed.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- A coal-hoikhaving a malleable iron bottom, 13, valve C, short pipe connection D, and skeleton frame E, substantially as herein described. 7
