Specification of Letters Patent No. 5,991, dated December 26, 1848.

To all who-m it may concern Be it known that I, T. H. PARKER, of York, in the county of York and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful improvements in HoteAir Stoves, and that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the principle or character which distinguishes them from all other things before known and of the usual manner of making, modifying, and using the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which-'- Figure l is an isometrical projection. Fig. 2, is a vertical section.

The same letters refer to like parts in both the figures. l

The nature of my invention consists in so attaching that part of the stove above the iire pot, and in which the lire door is contained, to the lower part by a swivel joint,l

so that it can be entirely removed from over the fire pot by revolving it around, by means of which the fire pot can more easily be got at to clean. I also construct the stove with a close base and have a movable grate in the fire pot, worked by a rod that projects through the base, and another movable grate at the bottom of the ash pan, moved in a similar manner; the latter opens into the cellar or an ash reservoir below.

The construction of my stove is as follows: The base a is pyramidal, and may be formed in steps or otherwise it is truncated and fits to the flooror hearth all around, it is surmounted by a short cylindrical column Z1,

'which forms the fire pot; and above this there is a square abacus c, in which there is a horizontal flue all around, and from which the exit pipe d ascends, a valve e, by closing cuts off the direct communication from theI fire to the pipe d, and turns it around the horizontal flue in c as above named' through an opening o. The cap f is a short cylinder, surmounted by a convex top and is connected with the abacus above named on one side by a bolt f on which it swivels, as

clearly shown in the drawing; in frontt-his cap has a fire door, which when it is over the fire pot may be used like similar doors in common stoves. Atvthe bottom of the ire pot there is a common circular grateat h, which revolves horizontally; to this is attached a rod z' that extends outk through the close base, `by which it is shaken in a manner well known, and on a level with the bottom of the base, or nearly so, there is another similar grate at 7c, and shaking rod Z,'by means of this arrangement the ashes can all be shaken from the fire down into ments, what I claim therein as new, and for which I desire to secure Letters Patent, is 1. The swivel cap,constructed, arranged and combined with the stove substantially uin the manner and for the purpose above set forth.

2. I claim the double revolving gratev as above set forth in combination with the close. base substantially in the manner described.
