To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JAMES FOSTER MC- CONAGHY and GEORGE GOODRIOK DUDDLES, subjects of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at 19 Majoribank street, Wellington, in the county of Hutt, in the Pro-' vincial District of Wellington and Colony ofpart of this specification, Figure 1 represents.

On referring to the drawings it will be seen that A is the body of a bottle, having above it the neck B. To below its junction with the body this neck is ground or opaque. It is therefore impossible to see the interior. At the bottom of the neck and inside the same is an intern ally-protruding annular seat 0, upon which is supported or rests the glass' or earthenware ball D. This ball, which may be ground, is of such a diameter as compared with its seat as to make a good contact therewith, the depth of the said seat or its bearing area being dependent. upon the diameter of the ball and of the neck of the bottle.
Above the top of the-ball and inside the" bottle-neck is an annular step or shoulder E. Above this thebottle-neck is larger in diameter than it is below. When the ball and the diaphragms are assembled in place, the bottle-neck is slightly heated and closed to the said diaphragms. They are thereby locked in position and prevented from removal unless violence is resorted to. This closing is easily and quickly performed withoutany great skill being necessary, and it can therefore be done by the bottler after the contents are in place in a few seconds with but a heater and closingtongs.
The lift of the ball will vary with its diameter, but in no case need it exceed one-quarter of the said diameter. As can be well understood, no wire, string, or other foreign substance can be inserted between the ball and its seat.
Though two diaphragms may efiectually bar any tampering with the ball, yet for safety sake three are preferred. The incuts may also vary in their number and contour and round perforations be used; but those illustrated are preferred.
Having now described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isr 1.
