Be it known that I, HERBERT D. WELLER, 'a citizen of the United States, residing at San Jose, county of Santa Clara, State of California, have invented an Improvement in Mail- Pouch Address and Fastening Attachments; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.

Hy invention relates to improvements in mail and like pouches.

My invention comprises details of construction which will be more fully explained by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a front View of the upper part of the pouch. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same. Fig. 3 isa longitudinalsection through the locking end ot' the strap. Figs. 4 and 5 are transverse sections through the same. Fig. 6 is a bottom view of the same. In the ordinary construction and use ofv mail-pouches a flap is made to turn over the 'open end of the pouch and staples are pro- 1 vided through which a strap is passed with a latching device which fits over a staple, and

the whole is secured by an independent and removable padlock. Such locks are liable to become misplaced or lost; and it is the object of my invention to permanently attach the lock to the bag and to form an end upon the strap which will engage with the lock and be secured thereby and in conjunction with this end an open slot through which the address-card .may be introduced or removed, the end of said slot abutting against the lock, so that the single fastening secures the bag and the address-card. in place.

As here shown, A is the bag, having a iiap B, adapted to fold over the open end of the bag. This flap has staples 2 iixed to it at intervals, and these staples pass through protected slots, as at 8, which are made through both sides of the bag just below the mouth. These staples having been passed through the slots project from the opposite side.

The introduction of the bolt 10 into the lock causes the end of the channel which contains the card to abut against the face of the lock, and thus close the channel-and prevent any removal of the card. The parts are released by the use of a key, which is introduced and turned in the lock,V so as to disengage the bolt from the holding-catches, and the strap can then be withdrawn and the pouch opened. Theend of the channel containing the card is then exposed, so'that the card can be removed or changedatpleasure.
