SAMUEL BRENT IVHINERY, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO THE PITTSBURGH BLUE PRINT COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF PENN- SYLVANIA.
BLUE PRINTlNG APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters'latent No. 699,355, dated May 6, 1902.
Application filed January 23, 1902. Serial No. 90,922. (No model.)
To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL BRENT IVHI- NERY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented or discovered new and useful Improvements in Blue-Printing Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
In the accompanying d rawings,wl1ich make part of this specification, Figure I is a side elevation of my invention with a portion broken away; Fig. II, a fragmentary View of the same, the cylinder being shown in transverse section and rotated at right angles to the position shown in Fig. I; Fig. III, an end elevation; Fig. IV,a detail showing the means for holding the cover, and Fig. V a detail of one of the catches.
My invention relates to the art of making blue-prints or other photographic reproductions.
The object of my invention is to provide a printing mechanism whereby photographic copies of pictures, drawings, and the like may be made by artificial light and the photographic paper and the pictures or drawings may be held securely by simple mechanism.
In the drawings, 1 1 designate uprights, and 2 2 bases, constituting end frames tied together by rods 3 3. The tops of the frames have journals for the trunnions 4 4: of the drum or barrel 5. The drum consists of a cylinder of glass 6, over the ends of which are set the rabbeted annuli 7 7. The annuli are tied together by the bolts 8 8 between the the left-hand side of Fig. II) by the means shown in Fig. IV. Each channel-barf) has an outwardly-extending lug 11, on which is secured a clamping device, that shown consisting of the jaws 12 and 13, which engage opposite sides of the sheet or cover 10, having between the jaws a fold distended by means of an inclosed rod 14:. 5
The free end of each sheet 10 is provided with a series of catches 15, whose hooks 16 look, as shown in Figs. II and IV, over the rod 17. Each catch has two spring members 18 and 19, to the former of which is secured by a screw the hook 16, provided with the lug 20 for manipulating it in the operation of engaging the sarne with the rod 17 and disen gaging it therefrom. The members 18 and 19 are fastened together by clips 21 21, riveted thereto. The member 18 carries the jaws 22 and 23, each having a hook engaging over the member 18. The jaws are clamped on the member 18 and the cover 10 by the screw 24. v A rod 14 is inclosed in the fold at the 6 edge of the sheet1O,tl1at carries the catches 15.
The operation is as follows: The drum is rotated into a horizontal position, the drawing or design to be copied laid on the drum 6, the photographic or sensitized paper laid upon the drawing or design, and the cover locked to rod 17 by catches 15. The drum is then rotated to bringthe lower side up, and that side is then supplied with sensitized paper and drawings. After the covers 10 have been 7 5 locked to the rod 17 the drum is rotated to the vertical position, as shown in Fig. I, and the electric lamp is lowered into the same by clock mechanism or otherwise at such a rate as to properly make the prints. When the Sc printing has been finished, the lamp is with drawn, the drum placed horizontally, the covers 10 unlocked, and the printed paper and'drawings taken out.
By means of my invention photographic copies of drawings, films, or tracings may be made at any hour and in any weather. The cost and inconvenience of reproduction by artificial light has been reduced, so as to admit of its use in ordinary drafting and printing offices, and small prints can be taken Without waste of light.
Having described my invention, I claim- 1. A transparent hollow printing-frame, a
cover therefor provided with one or more catches, each having two members composed of spring material, one secured to the cover and the other forming a clasp.
2. A transparent hollow printing-frame, a cover therefor provided with one or more catches, each having spring members secured together at their ends, the intermediate por-
