TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that we, A. W. POTTER. and J. A. BARLING, of Monroe, Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Holding Reins; and we declare the following to be a full, true, and exact description of the some, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of our invention. The object of our inventibn is to provide a. device, simple in its construction and effective in its operation, for the purpose of holding the reins, either while the driver'is engaged or after he has left the vehicle, in order I to prevent the animals from running away.
B represents a small board, which is intended to be secured to the dash-board or any other suitable part of the vehicle. Attached to the board B is the spring A, which is bent in the form as shown in the accompanying drawing, and is secured to the board B by means of thetwo staples C C. This spring should possess considerk v able strength, so that the reins D cannot be easily moved, after they have once been fastened, by any movements that the animal may make, and should be able to hold the horse's head at such a height as to prevent him from running away.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure. by Letters Patent, is-- u The spring A, when bent in the form as shown, in combination with the board B, substantially in the manner and for the purpose specified: p i In testimony that ive claim the above we hereby afiix our signatures in the presence of two witnesses.
