HERNIAL. TFUSS'.
sPEcrrIcA'rroN frming part er ieaers Patent No. 698,2254, dated prn e2, 190e.
A Application filed April 1e, 1901.-
" a link therewith, a light and flexible construction capable of adjustability of action being provided thereby.
The characteristics of my invention will more fully appear from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure l is a perspective view of a truss made in accordance with my improvements. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, and Fig. 3 is an end elevation,in illustration of my improvements.
As shown inthe drawings, the band A,preferably made of aluminium, is formed to fit and clasp the body, a concavty A being provided to bridge the spinal column,- the flexibility and lightness of the material permitting conformation to the body and freedom from undue pressure.
The pad B is secured to the lever-arm B L, as by means of the screws h, the lever-arm being oblique to and pivoted` upon an arbor 0 preferably integral with or made from the body of the band iA. The lever has a short Serial No. 56,152. (No modeh) arm B2, which is pivoted to a linkl C, having a pivotal connection on the free end d. of a spring D. The spring D is secured by the ad- 4'justable screw d to the band A, the adjustment of the screw regulating the force exerted by the spring and the consequent pressure of the pad B. The arbor ct is preferably 1ocated at a point near the lower part of the truss-band in order to admit of the operating mechanism, comprising the arm B2, the link C, and the spring D,`acting within the approximate width of the band, to form a compact structure. The pad B,"iixe`d on the oblique arm B', extends forwardly and when pressed inwardly by the actuating mechanism eects a perfect support.
Having described my invention, I claim.-
In a truss, the combination of a spring-band having a pivot or arbor thereon, with a lever having an arm oblique to said-arbor, said lever being pivoted on said arbor, a forwardlyextending pad fixed on said oblique arm, a
link pivotally connected to said lever, and a spring having one end fixed to said bandand the other -end pivotally connected to said link, substantially as specified.
Inwitness whereof I have hereunto set my hand, this 15th day of April, 1901, in the presence of the subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE w.-VDEEE.
