TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that 1, PETER S. REIST, of Oregon, Manheim township, county'of Lancaster, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new Self-Adjusting Elastic Gate for railroads, farms, or private use; and I do hereby declare the following to be an exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and tothe letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the elastic gate.
Figure 2 also a perspective view of the same, exhibiting the springs of India rubber or elastic material, and the gate of wood or metal bars.
' The nature of my invention consists in the construction of a double gate, opening in the centre, and made of India rubber or any elastic material, so as to'drive through the gate with horses and wagon, or a train of cars, whilst the gate is self-adjusting, opening and closing when the cars have passed through, the ends meeting in the centre, presenting the appearance of a tightly-closed gate, so that cattle will not attempt to pass through.
