Be it known that I, KARL UCHERMANN, a subject of the King of Sweden and Norway, residing at Ohristiania, Norway, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ooin-Freed Apparatus for Sale of Stamps, Tickets, or the Like; and I do herebydeclare the following to be a full, clear, and exactdescription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention has relation to a coin-freed apparatus for sale of stamps, tickets, doc, which are stored in the form of a band or strip upon a roller provided within the apparatus.

One of the features of my invention consists in the provision of a feed-roller for said band or strip, which roller or its shaft is formed with radially disposed recesses or cavities iorthe reception of the coin and provided at intervals apart corresponding to the length of the ticket with notches forengagement with a latch designed to be lifted by the coin during the onward movement of the same, so to release the feed-roller and permit of the same revolving on an angle corresponding to the intervalbetween said notches.

The object of myinvention is to provide an apparatus of this character capable of securing byasimple construction a perfectly posi tive operation.

Another feature of my invention relates to the arrangement of the knife by means of which the paper band is cut to form single stamps or tickets and to means wherebysuch cutting may be effected in an accurate manner and whereby it is prevented that the end a vertical section, on line C O of Fig 1, as

seen from the left. Fig. 5 is a detail showing the cutting arrangement from the inside.

The band or paper strip 0 is wound upon a roller Z), mounted within the casing a, and on being unrolled the strip passes underneath a roller (Z to the upper side'of a feed roller or drum 6', which is provided upon its circumference with pins f, arranged in rows lengthwise of the drum and at intervals apart equal to the length of the ticket or stamp, and the strip or band is pressed against said pins by the press-roller d, which is provided for this purpose with grooves g for engagement with said rows of pins. The feed roller or drum 6 is shown provided at one end with radiallydisposed recesses or.cavities 71 for the reception of the coin, which may be inserted into the apparatus through an assay-coinway j of anysuitableconstruction. Thecoin-recesses are separated by radially-disposed partitions 7;, equal in number to the rows of pins f. lhe drum 6 is normally held by a latch Z, adapted to engage notches m, formed for this purpose upon the drum or on a disk 91, connected with the same. Said notches correspend in number to the rows of pinsfon the feed-roller and are spaced apart accordingly. On the latch Z is a stud 0, which extends into the path of the coin, so that the latter cannot when confined in the coin-recess h move onward without lifting the latch out of engagement with the feed-drum, after which the latter is free to revolve; but as soon as the coin has come clear of the stud o the latch will once more snap down'upon the drum or disk and engage the next notch m. On each insertion of a coin the drum 8 will consequently be disengaged and allowed to revolve on an angle corresponding to the interval between the notches-that is, to the distance between the successive rows of pins f.

The onward movement of the feed-drum is effected by means of a members, mounted adjacent to the circumference of the feeddrum on an arm r, which is loose upon the shaft of the drum, so as to be rotatable upon the same together with said members. On moving the latter by means of a handle a, projecting through a slot '6, provided in the side of the casing a, the end of said member will make contact with the coin, for which a.

certain play is provided between each two successive partitions It, and pushes it forward underneath the stud 0 on the latch Z, so as to lift the latter, after which the coin coming against the partition 7c, which confines the same in front, will take with it the feed-drum until the latch snaps into the following notch. On releasing the handle to the arm 0", together with the member s, will be taken back to theinoperative position (shown in Fig. 1) by means of spring 0*. When by the revolution of the drum the recess in whichthe coin is confined has obtained a downwarddirection, the coin will drop into a drawer or coin-receptacle.

On leaving the feed-drum e the paper strip 0 passes between two press-rollers o and w,

geared to the drum by means of intermediate gears n z and one of which is provided with engravings forthepurpose ofimprinting upon the papera post-stampor ticket-mark. After passing between said press-rollersthe paper strip is directed upon a guide-plate, so as to pass between two cutters 1 and 2 and emerge 'in the delivery-box 3, from which it may be taken out. Simultaneously with the withdrawal of the stamp or ticket from the box 3 I cause the paper strip to be cut off. be-

tween the cutters 1 and 2. To this end I provide upon the delivery-box 3 an angular lid 4, which is pivotally mounted in the end walls of said box and in the fIOllt wall of the casing a, the pivot-pin being on the inside of the lat ter provided with a'crank 5. The pin 6 of this crank extends into a slot 10 in the movable cutter 1, so as to cause the latter to descend and cut oif the paper strip 0, when the lid is opened. The withdrawal of the cutter 1 and the lid 4 to the normal position may be efiected by means of a link '7, lever 8, and a spring 9.

I claim- 1. In an apparatus for the sale of tickets and the like, the combination with a suitable case, a stationary and a movable knife, of means for delivering a continuous strip between said knives, a receptacle for the delivered portion of said strip, a lid for said receptacle, and means thereon to operate the movable knife to cut oif the strip, substantially as set forth.

3. In an apparatus for the sale of tickets and the like, the combination with a suitable case, a supply-roller and a strip thereon, of

a pair of rollers organized to feed the strip forward, a pair of delivery-rolls to receive the strip from the aforementioned ones, a stationary and a spring-retracted cutter, a receptacle for the ticket, a pivoted lid therefor and a crank on one of the pivots to operate the spri n g-retracted c utter toward the station' ary cutter when said lid is opened, thereby severing the ticket from the strip, substantially as set forth.

4. In an apparatus for the sale of tickets and the like, the combination with a suitable case, a supply-roller and a strip thereon, of a pair of rollers to feed the strip forward, a pair of delivery and printing rolls geared to one of the feed rollers, a receptacle for the ticket, said delivery and printing rolls arranged to deliver the end of the strip into the same, cooperating stationary and reciprocable knives, the latter provided with a slot, a lid, trunnions for mounting said lid, a crank on one of them, the pin of said crank entering the slot in the reciprocable knife, whereby the knife isoperatedto sever the end of the strip when the lid is opened, substantially as set forth.
