SAND-DRIER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 695,004, dated March. 11, 1 962.
Application filed April 11, 1901. Serial No. 55,300. [No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, NOAH Q. SPEER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sand-Briers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,clear,and exact description thereof, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings,
ceptacle has arranged therein a series of substantially horizontal pipes, the latter being only at sufficient inclination to carry oii? the water or condensed steam and provided at their lower ends with cooks for carrying of]? The dried sand is delivered through a chute to a traveling carrier or endless belt, which All of this construction, together with other details entering into my invention, will be hereinafter morespecifically described and then particularly pointed out in the appended claim, and in describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and wherein like numerals of reference will be employed to designate like parts throughout the several views of the drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a detail side elevation of my improved sand-drier. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same. Fig. 3 is a view of the opposite end of the drier. Fig. 4 is a top plan view of my improved drier. Fig. 5 is a transverse vertical sectional view taken on the line 5 5 of Fig. 1. Fig. 6 is a detail perspective view of one of the chan n el-bars by means of which the steam pipes are supported within the drier.
To put my invention into practice, 1 form a suitable support consisting of masonry-work 1 or the like, and upon this bed is supported the sand-receptacle 2. This sand-receptacle is closed on the sides and at the ends, and the bottom comprises two downwardly-inclined walls converging toward a common line, these walls 3 forming a chute for delivering the dried sand to the endless belt or carrier 4.

The sand is placed within the receptacle at its top, and the steam being introduced into the pipes this sand is dried as it filters down between the pipes forming the series of rows within the receptacle. These pipes being at a slight incline, any condensation of the steam that takes place within the same is easily drained off at the lower end thereof. The steam arising from the damp sand is conducted by the lines in the channel-beams which support the pipes to the vertical flues in the side wall and up these fines to the horizontal flue at the top of the receptacle by reason of the forced draft created by the fan at the discharge of the horizontal flue. The endless carrier or belt forms practically the bottom of the receptacle, as it will be observed that the sand can be discharged only in an amount as is permitted by the space between the lower edge of the inclined walls and the carrier.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A sand-drier, comprising in combination with the walled inclosure, having vertical flues in one of its inner walls, channel-irons open 011 their under sides supported by the opposite walls of said inclos'ure, said channel-irons opening onone side of the inclosure into said fines, and closed at their other ends, series of communicating steam-pipes resting upon said channel -irons, a hopper underneath the lower series of pipes and connecting the opposite walls of the inclosure, an endless carrier located adjacent to the outlet end of said hopper, as set forth.
