UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JENNY VON STRYK AND VON STRYK, OF ARRAS, RUSSIA, ASSIGNORS TO LUDOVIOA ADOLPHOWN A PERSOHKE, OF ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA.
DEVlCE FOR CLEANING AND DISINFECTING THE SEATS IN TOlLET-ROOMS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Eatent No. 694,119, dated February 25, 1902. Application filed October 16, 1901. Serial No. 78,841. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Beit known that we, JENNY voN STRYK and EMMY VON STRYK, subjects of the Emperor of Russia, residing in the town of Arms, in the Duchy of Livland, Russia, have invented a certain new and useful Device for Cleaning and Disinfecting the Seats in Toilet-Rooms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to a device which may be easily applied to toilet-rooms of any construction and which is intended to provide means for cleaning and disinfecting the seat immediately after the use of the water-eloset,and thereby to avoid the possibility of contagion. This is effected by connecting the actuating-handle of the rinser of the Water-closet to the delivery-opening of a receptacle containing a solution of some disinfecting agent in a volatile solvent, whereby the said solution may be directed upon the seat as a spray, a brush being also provided which is drawn over the seat at the same time, and thereby distributes the disinfectant.
I On the accompanying drawings we have -shown the device as applied to a water-closet embodying our invention, Figure 1 being a plan and Fig. 2 a side view of the same. Fig. '3 is a detail of the brush g.
The device is preferably arranged below the seat ofthe water-closet C6 and is suitably connected with the draw-bar b, which serves for operating the rinsing device in connection with the water-closet. In the preferred form of construction shown in the drawings the draw-bar b is provided with a rack, which engages a gear-wheel c, rigidly connected with another wheel d of larger dimensions. On
raising the handle of the draw-bar thegear wheel 0 is rotated; but inasmuch as the wheel 01, connected therewith, possesses a considerably larger diameter every point on its periphery will move with greater velocity. The
rim of this wheel (1 is grooved at 0. A band or endless cord 6 is placed in the said groove and is connected to a brush g, which is moved when the wheel cl is rotated. f is a guidepulley for the said cord or band 6. To 'the draw-bar b of the rinsing device is also connected a lever h, which operates a cock 41 when the draw-bar b is operated, opening said cock and allowing liquid to escape from the receptacle k, whence it enters into the nozzle Z, where it is distributed and introduced upon the seat in form of a fine spray. On raising the handle of the draw-bar b for the purpose of rinsing after the use of the water-closet the cock t is opened and the disinfecting fluid from the receptacle k is allowed to escape as thin jets. At the same time the brush g is moved along the seat. The brush is preferably kept below the seat when not in use. On dropping the draw-bar the cock iis closed and the brush g is restored to its normal position. placed at some height, is filled with a disin- The receptacle k, which is preferably.
fectin g easily-volatile fluid, so as to leave the I seat dry after a short time. In order to avoid evaporation of the disinfecting fluid, the receptacle is tightly closed and provided with a tube m, which reaches almost to the bottom of the receptacle and serves to prevent dangerous pressure. To prevent the seat from being injured by the disinfecting liquid and the solvents contained therein, such as alcohol, the seat is preferably made of enameled sheet-iron or it is covered with a suitable coat-- ing which is not attacked by the said'solvents.
tagion is greatest on this part, the brush may be so shaped thatthe bristles on the outer extremity of the brush opposite the inside of the funnel are suitably lengthened, as illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawings. The brush isfastenedto the band or cord e by hooks, so'as to be :easily detached and cleaned. A soft brush is preferably used, as it can be pressed more snugly against the parts to be cleaned, but it may also be replaced by a rag or by a plug of cotton or the like.
The nozzle Z is preferably made of enameled sheet-iron, of hard rubber, or similar materialwhich is proof against the action of the disinfecting fluid. I
In the case of water-closets which are not fitted up with vrinsing devices we provide a special handle b, which is then weighted by 1. A device for cleaning and disinfecting the seat and'the funnel of toilet-rooms, comprising the combination with an operatinghandle of a receptacle containing disinfecting liquid, a cock on said receptacle and a brush or equivalent means, substantially as described for cleaning the seat of the watercloset, and operating connections between said handle and the cock and brush respectively.
2. A device for cleaning and disinfecting the seat and other parts of toilet-rooms comprising the combination with an operatinghandle of a cock, a receptacle for disinfecting liquid controlled by 'said cook, a nozzle for distributing said liquid, a brush in connection with said handle, and means for connecting the cock to the brush so that they Will operate in unison, substantially as described.
3. In adevice for cleaning and disinfecting parts of toilet-rooms, the combination of a liquid-receptacle having a cock, with a brush, a handle, and means for connecting the cock and the brush to such handle, so that they will both be moved at the same time and by the same mechanism, substantially as specified.
4. In a device for cleaning and disinfecting parts of toilet-rooms an operating-handlc,a rinsing device in connection therewith, a draw-bar and rack on said draw-bar, a gearwheel engaging therewith, a wheel of larger diameter, rotated by said gear-wheel, an endless band on said wheel, a fluid-receptacle and a cock to control the escape of fluid from said receptacle a brush and connections between said band and the cock and the brush respectively, substantially as described.
In Witness whereof we have hereunto signed our names in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
