To provide a suitable support rfor the carploy a guard-bar P, whichcomprises a series illustrated are nothing more or less than or-` dinary screw-eyes. Any one of these bars may be removed when it is desired to take out a roll of carpet or put a new one in place. As will be noted upon reference to Fig. 2, the bars serve to keep the carpet as it is withdrawn from the roll from rubbing upon the roll next below. 4

It will be seen that by simply turning the hand-wheel L any carpet which has been withdrawn from a roll may be readily rewound thereon.

The Whole apparatus may be taken down and stored in a small compass and may be readily assembled by one possessing but little mechanical skill.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim is- 1. Aspindle or support for aroll of carpet or the like, comprising two members of like form; and means carried by said members for causing them to interlock as they are brought to position and to leave aspace intermediate their opposing faces for the reception of the inner end of the carpet-roll, whereby the inner end of the carpet may be clamped between them, substantially as described.

2. A spindle or support for a roll of carpety or the like, comprising two members of like form; means carried by said members for causing them to interlock as they are brought to position and to leave a space intermediate their opposing faces for the reception of the inner end of the carpet-roll, whereby the inner end of theV carpet may be clamped between them; guards formed upon the outer ends of said members; and stud-axles extend'- ing out from said guards.

3. A spindle or support for a roll of carpet or the like, comprising two members of like form, each member having ngers or arms H formed at one end; hooks I adapted to pass between the arms or fingers H and to overlap the body of the opposite member; and

stud-axles K extending out from the ends of the members.

4. A spindle or support for a roll of carpet or the like, comprising two members of like form, each member havingv a flat face, a rib G extending longitudinally of the member, arms H formed at one end ofthe member, and a hook I extending out from the flat face near the outer end of the member; a guard J; and a stud-axle extending out from the said guard.

5. A spindle or support for a roll of carpet or the like, comprising two members of like form adapted to interlock as they are passed in from opposite ends of a roll of carpet, and to embrace or clamp the inner end of the carpet; and a hand-wheel mounted upon the spindle.

6. A spindle or support for a roll of carpet or the like, comprising two members; and means for interlocking said members with a space left intermediate their opposing faces, whereby the inner end of the carpet may be clamped. between them as the parts are .brought to position, substantially as described.

7. In a cabinet or rack for displaying carpets and the like, the combination of an open frame or support, provided with a series of openings in its front face; means for holding a roll of carpet exposed to view within the frame; independent pins or arms tting within the openings of said frame; and a guardbar carried by said arms.

S.
