The operation of my device is as follows: It is assumed that the timing mechanism f is wound up and going, the main circuit 29 is connected to a source of electric current, and the machine is in its quiescent condition, such as in the day-time, when the permanent advertisement is exhibited on the blind b.
As soon as the contact-finger g? touches the contact 9 a current passes from the battery 1' to the electromagnet 1*, drawing down its armature and the lever s. This action makes the electrical shunt-circuit t and allows current to pass to the motor to start it, and simultaneously the lever s pushes the sleeve j 'to the right, so as to make the clutchj engage the wheel k. The motor then gradually rolls up the blind and also causes the cam m to operate the lever n and close the main motor-switch 0. When the blind is nearly at the top, the cam m operates the lever 'n and closes the switch 0 of the arc-lamp. At the same time the cam m moves the four-way switch 01 over to the other contacts a 'n, so that the battery 1' will not run down, as the contacts on the timing mechanism are not broken for some five to ten minutes, as the movement is so slow. Just as the blind is wound up the pin t on the wheel I engages the lever 3 depresses it, and allows the arm 3 to be disengaged from the projection 5 and to assume its normal central position, which is effected by the two adjustable springs 3, one being on each side of the arm 3 This action immediately pulls the clutch j out of engagement with the wheel 7c. The motor then continues to operate the wheel tt' by means of the lever 11 and pawl 1.64, the cam to moving the shutter u: so as to obscure the picture during the movement of the lanternslides. When the contact-finger g of the timing mechanism f makes electrical connection with the contacts a 02 the electromag net r is energized, and the lever s puts the clutch j into gear with the wheel j, the blind Z) is unrolled, the arc-lamp switched oft, and the four way switch n is returned to its original position, and finally the current is switched off from the motor, the arm 3' returning to its central normal position ready for the next period of operation.
Although I have described my invention as being operated by an electric motor and illuminated by an electric lamp, it is quite obvious any other motor and illuminating agent can be used by substituting equivalent control devices in substitution of the electric switches 13, 0, and 0. I may make the screen a as a roller-blind, which can unroll when the roller-blind Z7 is being wound up, and vice versa.
