UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES ALONZO ROSE, OF HASTINGS, NEBRASKA.
WASHER AND GASKET CUTTER.
SPEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 692,712, dated February 4, 1902.
Application filed June 28, 1901.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AMES'ALONZO Rosa, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hastings, Adams county, Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Machine for Cutting Washers and Gaskets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the cutting of Washers and gaskets used in steam-heat and gas fittings, pumps, and plumbing work. It provides for the cutting of different-sized washers and gaskets, as may be desired, by means of knives held and operated as described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a View in side elevation of the entire machine. Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the machine, not showing the crank.
Similarletters refer to similar parts throughout the two views.
A is a sleeve set vertically in a frame B.
O is an upright stem passing entirely through the sleeve A, having attached to its lower end by the set-screw and clamp D the angle-knives E E and attached to its upper end the crank and handle F by the nut and thread at G. The circular base of the frame H, Fig. 2, has sharp lugs atI I I, which press into the material to be cut and firmly hold the same, so that when the crank F is turned, revolving the stem 0, the knives are carried in a true circle, and being borne down by the pressure on the crank out the Washer or gasket from the material held in place under the machine by the lugs 11 I.
The different-width washers are out by setting the knives E E apart by sliding one upon the other and moving the heel'of knives on the stem.
Suitable graduations, as E and E are formed upon the horizontal portion of the knives E and E,-whereby when the same are moved longitudinally with respect to each other the distance between the cutting-points thereof will be indicated at all times and a predetermined width of washer cut.
It will be seen from the drawings that the Serial No. 66,448. (No modell) said knives for indicating the relative adjustment thereof, means at the opposite end of said shaft for facilitating the operation of the same, and a base supporting said frame and inclosing the cutting-points of said knives, and adapted to rest upon and retain the material operated upon in position, substantially as described.
2. A washer and gasket cutter, comprising a ring forming a base, means carried by said base adapted to retain the material operated upon in position, a suitable framework mounted upon said base, a plurality of pointed knives rotatably mounted in said framework, and means for changing the radii of stroke of points of said knives, substantially as described.
3. A washer and gasket cutter, comprising a flat ring forming a base, a plurality of pointed lugs extending downwardly therefrom and adapted to enter the material operated upon for retaining the same in position, a suitable framework mounted above the said base, a plurality of rotatably-mounted knives provided with cutting-points, means for revolving said knives, and means for changing the radii of stroke of said cutting-points, said points always operating within the inner periphery of said ring, substantially as described.
